Is UCSB still lousy for vocal performance? I actually want to major in physics or engineering (if I can get in), but wanna continue with vocal performance on the side or maybe as a double major. There are a lot of posts from 5 or more years ago about avoiding UCSB for voice. Is this still true?
Taking lessons from a teacher is always an option, but double majoring in VP with an engineering or physic major is going to present a real problem. Labs are usually in the late afternoon or evening and rehearsals for any choir/chorus requirements or opera performances are always held in the evenings and they invariably conflict. You also have practice time for voice and piano (which you will have to take) as well as your all of your academic classes in both fields and it’s a tremendous load to attempt. If you really want to major in the sciences, find a good teacher in the area and take voice lessons on the side.
