Got accepted this morning!
Major: Pre-Biology
GPA: 3.00
Major GPA: 3.9
TAG: No
IGETC: No
Prereqs done: Yes
the reason my overall gpa is so low is because I had a rough time during my first year of college when I was 18. I then dropped out of the college I was going to and started at community college and have gotten all A’s besides one B since then, but didnt retake some of the classes I did poorly in back then. I wrote about it in my essays though. Good luck to all of you!
So there’s no admissions update up on my portal but I just got an email from UCSC inviting me to a “Next Steps Online Presentation” that says :
"Join representatives from the UC Santa Cruz Admissions Office for this online Next Steps Presentation, designed specifically for students attending community colleges in the Central Valley. The presentation is for prospective junior-level transfer students in the Central Valley who are considering accepting admission to UCSC for Fall 2018. The presentation will include information on how to accept UC Santa Cruz’s admission offer, financing your degree, and support services for transfer students. At the conclusion of the presentation, you will hear from a current UC
Santa Cruz student who transferred from the Central Valley, as well as a Q&A session via chat with UC Santa Cruz Admissions representatives. "
Sooooo I don’t know if that means I got accepted or not?? Idk why else they would send this to me but like I said there’s no update on my portal.
I’ve been on this thread but haven’t posted yet…I’m getting kinda irritated lol. I’m a CCC sociology major with a 3.98, all prereqs except Math13 done, and will have IGETC by the end of this semester. The issue is that I did one year at a “non traditional” fully accredited university that did pass/no pass. Anyways, last year it looks like they released all the humanities/social sciences decisions first, then STEM; this year it seems to be the opposite…thoughts?
@mcdsoc2018 I feel like its just random because I have seen a bunch of different majors get accepted. You are clearly killing it in school, so don’t let it get to you im sure things will work out.
Do you guys know if UC’s calculate your Major GPA based only on courses before the Transfer Academic Update? Or do they also look at winter and spring. Because my Major GPA is 2.6 from the update, but will be over a 3.0 after winter quarter And how crucial is the Major GPA? my overall is 3.71 (major is Comp Sci)… tons of extracurriculars, prereq’s and igetc will be done… I had health issues last year, hence my low Major GPA, and I discussed that in the application. Have a very positive grade trend, so at least that. I am so worried Anyone have some thoughts? So scared.
It think if it’s borderline or there’s a significant difference they should take updated grades into account! Also emails not related to admissions might as well be ignored bc I got a welcome email from a UC I got rejected from so :))
@yochocolate But the thing is, I won’t be able to update winter grades until the end of the filing period already lol. My winter quarter ends April 1st.
that’s true, if it isn’t a ccc transfer aligned specifically with fall semester updates then they likely wouldn’t be looking into winter quarter grades. but if they see an upward grade trend that could def be a good thing!
Thanks for the peace of mind, I hope so I had medical issues last year and that’s why my major GPA was so low. I explained that in the additional comments on the application. I basically got 2 C+s and an F in Calculus. I retook the calculus in fall and got an A. Also got an A in another programming course and As in 2 GEs all in that same fall quarter. I went from Cs and an F to all As right as I got off the medication. So my overall GPA went from a 3.20 to a 3.70 in the fall just in time for the update. Really big grade trend. I hope they understand my medical problems in the past, and maybe let the MAJOR GPA slide considering it still didn’t make the 3.0 average by the fall
@AyGrey when I spoke to a rep from ucsc in the fall they told me that I didn’t need to get higher than either a 2.5 or 3.0 gpa for that semester because my gpa was pretty high. that makes me think that they barely look at the TAU but I could be wrong
Hi! I am somewhat sure that they look at the TAU, and that is the reason why they have the TAU in the first place. That fall quarter is very important. And you never know, I could be wrong and you could indeed be correct, but in my borderline situation I’m sure TAU can help.
