UCSC Making Up Assets and Family Profits...

Yesterday, I received an email from FAFSA saying that the Financial Aid Administration made some changes to my application. Included, they bumped up my single mother's gross income from 40k to 126k, as well as other ridiculous changes that couldn't have just been mistakes on my part. I realize this is probably just an error, but upon refiling my application, FAFSA wouldn't allow me to change two mistakes (lines 88 and 89). Does anyone know what I should do about this? Does the FAA at UCSC have the power to change those aspects of my application since I do not? This wouldn't be as big of a deal if the two unchangeable lines weren't adding another 25k to my mother's assets of which don't even exist...

Also, I may as well ask about another question as well. Long story short, my family moved to California this past July, which means we just barely met the deadline of a year and a day for me to get in-state. I've read about appealing for in-state tuition if you can prove that you are a resident, and I'm just wondering if that's possible for me. My mom has already changed her license plates to california and we both intend to switch our licenses to California IDs when school ends. She also filed for taxes in California as well.

Sorry to bump this up, but this is kind of pending how much debt I get myself into in over the next few years…

I’m sorry I can’t help you with the FAFSA question, other than to say you will have to call the office on Monday. I hate when they send things out late on Fridays. I got one last year from Davis saying that I wasn’t eligible for housing. It was sent on Friday after their office hours were closed. It was just a mistake email, but what a panic all weekend. I hope yours gets straightened out.

For the residency, if you have been here since last July - won’t you have been here for a whole year? Here is the quote from the UCSC residency page: The residence determination date is the day instruction begins at the last of the University of California campuses to open for the quarter.

I think that means Sept, unless you were trying to enroll for summer classes.

Yeah, it’s a hassle getting all the stuff last minute. I’ve been told that as well as residency having to be established by the time I take my acceptance so I’m not completely sure. I guess I’ll add that to the list of issues that I’m taking up with the FAA on monday haha.

Thanks for the response!
