<p>CSULB is a great school. It’s my safety, but I know literally hundreds of brilliant, well-educated people in the area who went to CSULB or plan on going there and could not be happier with their decision. Long Beach is a wonderful city, and Santa Cruz is much more secluded. By dismissing CSUs because of their lack of “national prestige”, you’re insulting thousands of perfectly intelligent and capable people who <em>gasp</em> CHOSE CSULB. BOTH of these schools are struggling right now because of budget cuts, but both are still excellent schools.</p>
<p>Thank you all for your input (except Slowdive). I definitely recognize that both are great schools, I just get worried when thinking about finding a job, and competing with someone who went to Berkeley. But I think if i can just work my butt off, earn a high GPA at UCSC and graduate (hopefully) with honors, and get into a graduate program (hopefully CSULB) I should be good. I am going to choose UCSC because it has everything I love, I guess I was just worried about missing out on Long Beach and how awesome it is. </p>
<p>I know neither of the two schools are anywhere near UCB/Stanford level, I was just worried because people i’ve spoken to about this seem to give UCSC the same enthusiasm as they would give moldy tofu. </p>

<p>@OP- Go where you think you will be happier regardless of prestige. Sounds like you’re leaning more towards UCSC from what you’ve described in your initial post. Disregard what the ■■■■■ has to say about Psychology majors/UCSC, they’re just trying to spread their bitterness here on CC. It terms of grad school, where you completed your undergrad really doesn’t matter so long as you keep your grades up. I’ll let you know for a fact though- UCSC is a BEAUTIFUL campus and full of bright individuals like yourself. </p>
