I've been accepted to both of these, but am still undecided on what to do. At SDSU i'll be in Business administration with a emphasis on finance, and at UCSC ill be doing the business managment economics dual major program. I was wondering if anyone knew which was a better undergrad business school? I've been looking but cant find which would be best. Also im from Norcal already, so kind of looking to go down to San Diego, but scared to leave my dudes behind, many of them ive been friends with since childhood. Any info would be greatly appreciated, im torn in between these two school and don't know which to go to. UCSC for more academics, and SDSU for more of the total package, sports, girls, WARM beaches, stuff like that.

I'd say most people are going to tell you to go to SDSU as it is known to be the cal state for business. It really is up to you. I will remain unbias (because I would pick UCSC over SDSU anyday, and I have the option to go to SDSU if I really want to). UCSC is a UC afterall, though there are many opinions on this matter.

Both schools are nice. UCSC has the better campus environment and I would argue the better dorm experience. I live right by SDSU and it is basically a commuter school with a few dorms available to some Freshmen. I think like 97% of incoming freshmen stay in the UCSC dorms. UCSC is known as the "weed" school but there are a good number of students who are not into that, like me, and to be honest, SDSU has alot of bad stuff there too, especially alcohol.

Both campuses are close to a beach, and you probably know downtown San Diego is a wild place. Downtown Santa Cruz seemed more relaxed, which I preferred over my downtown area.

As far as academics, they are probably about equal, the differences might be in the student body, Santa Cruz being more liberal. Seems like most people who go to either school only have positive things to say.

My best recommendation is to visit both campuses and see which one you feel best in. But if you are a sports fan, SDSU is definitely your school since UCSC does not have much in that area.

SDSU for sure.
Jealous that you have the option. I got rejected from there.

what? curiousgeorgiana, you got rejected from sdsu and accepted to ucsc?

UC Santa Cruz is a way better school than SDSU. SDSU may be a better location though.
I dont know, i got into to SDSU and wouldnt go there if you paid me. I have a friend that goes there and likes it though. It just depends what you want out of college i guess. Research them and see what is a better fit.
Good Luck

San Diego is a better school for business since you will probably easily find internships. My friend just graduated from SDSU and got a job from Lockheed Martin over Ivy League educated kids - he believes it was due to his communication/interview skills. Just remember the degree gets you the interview, and your personality gets you the job. However, UCSC would be a great undergrad if you plan on getting an MBA ... but if this is the case you might as well save a boatload of money and go to a state school and then go to a UC or private school for your MBA. When I worked at Starbucks near a biotech company (Amgen) all the business folk told me they went to state schools then had Amgen paid for them to receive the MBA's from Pepperdine.

overall, UCSC is a WAY better shool. SDSU isn't even ranked. If you care really a lot about rankings, go to UCSC.

But if you really want to enjoy your time in college, SDSU. Partyy school and it's in San Diego!!!
I heard Santa Cruz is soooo boring on weekends.
Plus there's always graduate school if you really want to go to a good college.

"overall, UCSC is a WAY better shool. SDSU isn't even ranked. If you care really a lot about rankings, go to UCSC. "

SDSU is ranked how then some UC for biz and UCSC isn't even ranked.

I think drifto2k is trying to say that:
"SDSU is ranked HIGHER than some UCs for business and UCSC isn't even ranked for business"

In general, you'll be better off going to UCSC. You have a lot of options that on average are much better programs at UCSC. However, if you are 90% sure you want business, then SDSU.

SDSU's business school reputation (which IS important) has been increasing steadily for the last 10 years. Still not widely known on a national scale. The UCSC program is much more "academic" while the SDSU program is more practical.

If your goal is Grad School, then I'd go for UCSC for under grad.

all i have to say about SDSU: jailbait

sketchy area of town, lots lots of parties with high school girls...
but hey man, its got the whole SD thing going for it, which i guess for people who dont live in SD is pretty nice. Must warn you however, SDSU isnt beachside.
about 30 minutes away cali trumpet? I dunno i live in North County so i dont find myself by SDSU much.
