Does anyone have any advice about on/off campus transfer housing in Santa Cruz? So far I've read/seen good things about Porter, 9/10, and University Town center. Has anyone on CC dormed there before?

It looks like I'll probably commit to UCSC soon. I think even if I got in elsewhere, I would stick with Santa Cruz. There is something about the campus that the other UC's don't have. There is so much unspoiled nature and the school is right in the heart of it. Here was my reasoning so far:

pros:
~location! (it is one of the most beautiful campuses I've seen. Very clean and peaceful environment, the buildings are in the forest and the campus looks great for the most part. I like the fog too haha.)
~good academic reputation (They are pretty well-known for biology, video game design, programming, environmental sciences, ecology, etc.)
~high retention rate, so ideally, I would think they must be doing something right if most people come back. Most graduate on time too. All my classmates who went after graduating high school said they loved it, but that's a little more subjective.

cons:
~reputation for smoking a lot of pot, but honestly, don't all colleges have this? I don't believe in stereotypes, but even if the one for UCSC were true, I would much rather be around openminded people (nonviolent weed-smoking nature-lovers) than a bunch of belligerent alcoholics who only want to get trashed and fight everyone (personal preference).
