(This is just out of curiosity) Like any other student, before I applied to college I checked the acceptance rate of the colleges I applied to. Just around two weeks ago, I got a letter from UCSD for my family members and it said in the letter that around 88,000 students applied for SD but only around 5,000 were accepted (they gave exact numbers but I forgot what they were). This came out to be 6% of the students were accepted. Here is my question, why is the acceptance rate on Google for UCSD is 35.9%? Where does this number come from and how accurate is it?
@magopieces: They had 88,000 applicants but only 5,000 spots. Not all accepted students will enroll so they usually accept at least 3 times as many students as spots. The acceptance will most likely similar to slightly lower than previous years, definitely not a 6% acceptance rate.
Made you feel like UCSD is a top Ivy school for a minute, eh? The 36% is for school’s accepting you (admitted); the 6% is for your accepting of UCSD (enrolled). Sadly that means most kids accepted to UCSD decide to go elsewhere. But you can also say UCSD does not care much about yield rate for the (USNWR) ranking and just go for top students first. I heard other UCs (D/I/SB) now would skip some top students now to manage yield better. UCSD is still trying to get the same kids that UCB and UCLA are trying to get :).
Ohh okay, this makes a lot of sense now Thank you
