<p>No. If you look at the score explanation, the death must be in the immediate family. Don’t waste your space with a stretch that will not earn you any points. I’m sorry for your loss.</p>
<p>I do think it would be useful for UC applicants to understand this scoring rubric before they write their essays. I think many applicants miss points they are entitled to because they don’t realize which factors are relevant within the rubric.</p>
