Just received a letter from UCSD stating the following:

"You improperly reported the unit values for your courses from the University of New Hampshire, based on an evaluation of your official transcripts you are in senior standing. UCSD does not accept senior standing."

So here is what happened, in 2005 I had taken 4 classes at the University of New Hampshire. On the UNH transcript they are listed as 4 credit courses. They did not have labs, they were just normal semester classes like English or Philosophy. When I spoke to an adviser at UCSD last November and had gone over ALL my transcripts with him to see if I would have enough credits to transfer as a junior (< 90 sem units), he told me that those UNH classes must be the equivalent of 3 units apiece, and to list them as that, and also that one of them probably wasn't UC transferable and I'd stay under 90 semester units. Five months later, in May, I was accepted to UCSD for the Winter Quarter 2010. Now, after rearranging my life and spending thousands of dollars to move closer to UCSD, I get this letter.
I have no idea what I'm going to do now if I don't go there, this sucks!

Does anyone who knows this process well feel that this warrants an appeal?

I spoke with one counselor today and he is going to call me back as to whether or not on of my UNH courses might be nontransferable (it was one of those non-science majors biology courses, it was literally called “Germs 101”), but he assured me not to get my hopes up. So I’m subduing my hope as best I can and remaining depressingly hopeless.

Oh yeah and I can’t apply to a CSU that would accept someone with senior standing for spring since they aren’t taking spring transfer applicants, and even for fall it’s looking grim for anyone. Kinda wishing I never moved to California!

Still haven’t heard anything. If worst comes to worse I’m just going to have to apply to UCI for next fall since I can transfer as a senior with 94 semester units. What sucks is I already got accepted there last year!

So two years will be wasted trying to transfer to a UC… jesus!

Decided not to appeal. After speaking with several counselors at UCSD I was convinced it would be futile since they are being very strict about their maximum units for transfers.

But for anyone looking to transfer with over 90 semester units (with some from a 4-year university), UC Irvine and Davis accept transfers in senior standing (Davis has a couple of restrictions with like the School of Engineering, though so be sure to check).

But as for me I’ve decided to apply for UCI for next fall. I was accepted there last fall application period and have raised my gpa a bit so I should get in. They have a great philosophy department as well.
