I am wondering why Korean kids, fluent in Korean are allowed to take the SAT11 in their native language. English speaking kids are certainly not given that as an option. It seems inherently unfair to me. Anyone else have a comment on this? I think you should never be allowed to use the score from an SAT11 on a language test for your native language.

well, not all korean kids are fluent in korean especially if they were born and raised in the US which is an English speaking society. i am not korean by the way.

I don't think I said (all Korean kids) I said those who are FLUENT in their native language.

"Korean kids, fluent in Korean " this means that ALL korean kids are fluent in korean. "korean kids who are fluent in korean" means that ones who ARE fluent. they have totally different meanings

No it does not. My post clearly states, Korean kids, fluent in Korean, and does not include Korean kids not fluent in Korean. The, "fluent in Korean" part is an obvious cavaet.

hah, i know what you means but there is a difference, although not a big difference between the two phrases. the way you said it means all korean kids and the way i said it means a particular group (the korean kids who are fluent in korean).

getting back to the point.

"English speaking kids are certainly not given that as an option. It seems inherently unfair to me. "

Many Korean kids who are fluent in Korean can also speak English and they have obviously been given "that" as an option because they can take the SAT II korean lang test. If the korean kids who are fluent in korean should not be able to take the korean lang test then why should non Enlish speaking students be forced to take english reading and writing on the SAT I test. You are saying that kids that have spent a lot of time learning something should not be able to test their skills and i find that unfair. Why not also suggest that kids who are proficient in math be banned from taking the math test since they are good at that.

it is clear that you do not fluently speak any foreign languages, but you do not have to prevent other students who do from taking lang tests. no one is forcing anyone to take lang tests. i did not take a language test because i do not feel that my foreign language is strong and instead i took chemistry and math IIC.

it's because koreans will rule the economy!!!!!!!jk

It is not only Koreans who do this but other ethinicities as well [Chinese, Spanish, etc.] I'm fine with it, I don't have a problem with it. Some kids who take the SAT IIs in their native language, sometimes don't get 800. ::shrugs::

major strength/weakness: I don't about strengths but my SAT scores were awful and therefore I have no idea why UCSD accepted me at all...I live in a rich area and I go to a private school. And no, I don't have amazing ECS, I didn't apply under some stupid major...economics actually...some of you guys out there have way better scores than me and got rejected...I feel really bad. I also don't know if I want to go there either.
