UCSD Class of 2017- Revelle College

So I was looking at the threads for Muir and Roosevelt, and I noticed that no one had made an official thread for Revelle.

I'm a neuroscience/physiology major, and Revelle was my second choice so I'm excited to be going there! Anyone else going to attend and stay at Revelle? I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at Triton Day and in the fall :)

I got accepted to Revelle too! After today (UCB, USC D:) it’s looking more and more like I’m going to UCSD. I’m going to Triton day as well. Hope to see you all there!

I got accepted to Revelle as a Human Biology major! I’m really looking forward to Triton Day.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you guys got accepted to “better” schools like UCLA and UCB and have decided to stick with UCSD (and why UCSD over the other schools)?
(I got into UCLA and UCB)

Hi guys! I got accepted to Revelle as Electrical Engineering major!!! I’m an international student from Taiwan!! However, it’s a pity that I can’t go to the Triton Day…TOO FAR AWAY !! I got into UW Madison as EE major as well but it’s so cold!!

I also got accepted to UCSD Revelle College as a biochemistry major! But I am still debating… How did you guys make the decision to attend?

I got into Revelle too! Although SD wasn’t my first choice, it is the most practical (other than the fact it’s like 5 hours away from home, whatever). The major I applied for isn’t really what I want to do anymore. Also, I really don’t understand the 6 college system. Does anyone want to help me out? I’m confused. About everything.

alaminatti I have all the same questions as you!

There are 6 “colleges”. These colleges each have different general education requirements. If you attend a certain college, you can only live in that college on campus. Regardless, you will be taking classes at all the colleges, and you will probably have friends all over campus too.
The plus side to having these colleges as a freshman is that it can shelter you from feeling lost on such a large campus - while allowing you to explore other unique parts of the school down the road.
The downside that I can think of is that you can’t share a dorm with a friend from high school if they got accepted into a different college at UCSD. (my own neighbor and friend… got into a different college! how convenient)

Take my words with a grain of salt – I’m just a high school senior at the moment.
Here’s a PDF comparison from UCSD:
http://www.ucsd.edu/_files/6collegescompared.pdf

In the end, the colleges aren’t that big of a deal. Apparently you can’t switch colleges until you have completed the requirement for writing courses.

Third year here. The most immediate difference between the different undergraduate colleges are 1) geography 2) GE’s
As the above poster said, each college is in a different section of the campus. Each college has their respective housing and dining halls. Chances are, you’ll live with people who are also Revelle students, the exception being overflow students i.e. 3 people in my first year suite were warren students. Back when I lived on campus, Revelle’s dining hall was…lackluster to say the least. From what I hear though, it’s tolerable now. Worst case scenario, Muir’s dining hall, Pines, is decent and not too bad of a walk.
Each college kind of has a “theme” behind it in regards to general ed requirements. Unfortunately, Revelle has a lot. I mean a freaking lot. That five course humanities sequence is the bane of my existance. On the bright side, you can AP out of most of the other GE classes.

THANKYOU. So from what I learned from your posts, the 6 College system is almost like the 4 houses at Hogwarts? Ok, thank you so much! However, I also was wondering, can you switch majors? I don’t mean switch colleges. I simply mean that the major I got is not something I want to do. Do you guys know anything about that?

I got accepted to Revelle as a neuroscience/physiology major! I’ll probably switch into one of the Lit majors though, and double major with either Cog Sci or Lit.
Alozaa, alaminatti, it was a tough decision for me, too. I just made the choice to turn down Berkeley and Davis… in the end, you have to go with the school that you feel the most comfortable at. I really liked the vibe of UCSD, for instance, and they have the cool Literature department that I feel I want.
I’m pretty sure you can switch majors! I mean, why not!
Anyway, I’m super excited to go to UCSD and meet you all in the fall. Go Tritons!

Got into Revelle!
I am an undeclared major though. I intend to declare a CS, it’s gonna be a tough ride since it’s impacted now.

I’m an international student, and I haven’t given any APs. Is it gonna be difficult ?

AmeliaJPond thank you very much! I went to Triton Day and the day after I sign my SIR! I am now officially a Triton! (BTW are you a Doctor Who fan or is that just your name? Off topic, sorry)

Hi guys, I’m a third year student from UCSD.

I don’t know if you guys have heard that we have a Chase branch right inside of the Price Center, which is inside of the heart of UCSD.
They also have 7 ATM machine on UCSD campus which no other banks do.
It’s really convenient to have an account with them no matter you wanna use it to pay for your tuition or just for saving some pocket money.

They are doing a special event for opening accounts next week. They will open for extra 1.5 hours from 6 - 7:30 pm from Monday to Thursday.

You can just make appointments online and go straight inside the branch.

THERE WILL BE NO WAIT LINE!!!

You can also go and just to get some information :D

Please feel free to check out the event page and comment for any question.
