UCSD Class of 2018 Official Decisions Thread

I wonder why so many non URM received the the phone call…super nervous. Good luck to us all on the 15th!

Hey just wondering when did you receive the call?

I am so worried, I dont think they will seriously make 20000 phone calls in 2 weeks. Also are they going to call international cuz I am in Canada

^ International applicants aren’t considered underrepresented. Not even by race, since race only counts for domestic applicants.

Congratulations @rgosula !!

Just got the call around 8:30 last night.
He told me that I got into Muir for bioengineering as Regents. At first I was skeptical and even told him that I wasn’t sure if this was real. He laughed saying that a lot of people are saying that. Anyways, I am definitely not a URM and asked him why they are calling and he said that they are going to try to contact all of the Regents scholars within the next week or so.

Also, don’t worry about not getting in if you don’t get a phone call. It’s just small handful that they will probably call (due to time) which means that there are still thousands of spots that need to be filled.

@amg217 historically, it has been Regents AND URMs, so that is consistent.

Accepted!!!

Here are my stats:

3.94 unweighted GPA, because of A minuses (4.0 UC GPA)
2070 SAT
Theatre student at prestigious theatre boarding school
Asian-American
First Generation College Student
Low Income
1 AP (my school only offers 2)
Tisch Summer High School Theatre Participant
Lots of other theatre related activities
Questbridge National College Match Finalist
Derek Freese Youth Media Film Festival Finalist
Other academic awards

D accepted as physics major - received separate phone calls on Sunday and Monday this week

GPA: 4.1 UC weighted
SAT Reading 740, Math 690, Writing 600
California public school student, full IB with almost all classes at AP level
ECs with tons of tutoring/volunteer work, theatre, and elite-level athletics

SO HAPPY AND PROUD!!
Now on to decide between UCSD, her first choice large school, or less prestigious small private. “To UC, or not to UC… that is the question.”

@nutter398 there are international calls actually.

I got the call but I am not a URM nor did the caller say anything about Regents, does this mean I got regents? Or does being a female in engineering count as URM?

Wait, I was wondering, exactly how did I get the call? I’m Asian so I am not URM but I seriously doubt that I was called because I was Regents (heck, I just consider myself lucky to have been accepted into the school itself), nor did the person mention anything about Regents. Do they call people whose incomes are low? If so, then maybe I am under that category.

I got the call about 5:00 pm today 3/12/14. I got the call of acceptance as a bioengineering at Earl Warren College. I am not an URM and not on the low-income side. If the person did not mention anything about Regent’s Scholarship, does this mean I automatically am excluded from the Regent’s?

@wenicd, Did you also get the "we are glad you applied e-mail from UCSD’s Jacobs Engineering School several weeks back?

hey @wenicod, out of curiosity was the phone number that you got the call a san diego area code? i had a miss call today from an unknown number (from the area code it looks like a socal number) but i don’t think it’s the san diego code. just curious aha

does EVERYONE get a call? So its pointless to check my portal?

My friend’s sister is one of the people who make the calls and she said that they just get a random list of names to make the calls! so the calls aren’t specifically just for URMs or regents; they are all just random and are trying to get as much as they can! I hope that helped

wait can someone tell me what they tell you during the call?? they called me twice, yesterday and today, but i was in class and couldn’t answer! thanks in advance

@emmelined: The person who called me congratulated me into getting into “a” university at first (which actually fits my scenario after a series of rejections/defers) and then stated that I was admitted into the University of California, San Diego. Hope this helps. :)

Can anyone tell me what number the call came from? I got a call from San Diego this morning but missed it. Did they leave a voice mail? Thanks.
