UCSD Class of 2019 Decisions/Discussion

hey I was wondering if someone could help me out

I got in to ucsd and uc davis last week, but when I was going over my application I realized I had checked off a class as uc approved honors on accident. I emailed admissions about it on Friday. Am I screwed, will they rescind my acceptances? as an out of state student my counselors weren’t really clear on uc approved honors to begin with.

^ No they will not rescind your acceptance because of that.

General Comments: I’m super excited that I got in! I thought my GPA might be a little too low. Not my top choice, but definitely a good option. Congrats to everyone else who got in

Hi friends! So I got into ERC, which was my third choice because of the sheer number of gen eds, few of which overlap with my major (Cog Sci, I want to do the B.S with a focus on HCI and info systems). The ones that don’t aren’t going to be/cannot be covered by AP credit (MMW, regional specialization, fine arts). Is it even remotely possible for me to graduate in four years if I (potentially, of course, because you can’t declare this until later and it has to be approved) was to double major in comp sci? I had wanted to do a semester abroad, too, but there’s no way I could do all that and graduate in four years. I know in theory if you can’t graduate in four you can petition to switch colleges but I’ve heard it’s extremely rare, especially if you want to switch from a college with more gen eds to one with fewer gen eds. If only I had gotten into Muir…

^^^^Opps mistake^^^^: I got into Revelle with Undeclared Physical Sciences, and no freshman honors

Waitlisted
uwGPA: 3.75
wGPA: 4.33
SAT: 2010
ACT: 29
Major: Theatre, probably waitlisted because I didn’t complete an optional supplemental application…

Accepted to Revelle as Undeclared (although I applied with a major)

GPA: 4.3 (UC), 3.6 UW (horrible Freshman year, so didn’t hurt UC GPA)
SAT I: 2230
ACT: 34
SAT II: Math 2 770
APs: 7 total, three 5’s so far
ECs: Baseball 4 years, <10 hours community service, build computers

Congratulations to everyone who got in. Although this year there seemed to be a lot of upsets; kids at my school who definitely should’ve gotten in were rejected. One was waitlisted by Stanford and rejected by San Diego and Davis.

Seriously, @JigglyCream? That seems crazy! What are their stats? I just don’t see how a student waitlisted at Stanford could get rejected by Davis, or UCSD, for that matter.

Yeah @sbjdorlo, everyone had a good laugh about it.

His stats
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.4 W
SAT: 2220
SAT II: Math 2 790, Physics 770
APs: 10?
ECs: I’m not really sure, involved in robotics clubs and entrepreneurial projects.

Major: Public Health
SAT 2 Bio: 690, ACT: 33

NHS, IB Program, lots of volunteering

how difficult is it to change majors (public health-> biochem?) I had a revelation after I submitted my app :frowning:

“I just don’t see how a student waitlisted at Stanford could get rejected by Davis, or UCSD, for that matter.”

  1. Because I understood that Stanford hasn't yet released it's admission notifications, I don't understand how your friend might have already been waitlisted for admission this year. Nobody has commented in the lengthy College Confidential "Stanford Class of 2019 Applicant Discussion" thread to indicate such early notification from Stanford. Do you mean that he/she was deferred from early action to the regular decision pool?
  2. Only 7 of the 2561 students offered positions on Stanford's wait list in the past three years were accepted. In real terms, being waitlisted at Stanford may be little better than being rejected by UCSD.
