UCSD Class of 2019 Decisions/Discussion

Hey guys, is the pass to Triton day the sticker ?? or is there another pass?

Admissions packet came in the mail today but was broken on one side and contents falling out. Can someone tell me what was in there so I can see if I’m missing anything? Darn mailman!

@onlyrodeo‌
I got a certificate, a sticker, a letter, a flyer for Triton Day, and a Living On Campus booklet

Do internationals also get the packet?

@kgamon‌ Neither of those majors is impacted, so switching requires a few clicks on TritonLink once you obtain access.

@xquits‌ they don’t actually check for the pass, it’s just a clever marketing ploy to get you somewhat more excited; that said you might as well hold on to it

Thanks @Indubitab1y‌

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): not really sure if I’m considered first gen to UCSD (my parents only went to community college, I usually don’t check the box because my grandparents went to Berkeley)

Reflection:

Strengths: Grades, test scores, extracurriculars
Weaknesses: Not a lot for UCSD
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I’m above the usual stats for UCSD and a strong applicant
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: University of Miami; Waiting on: Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, Brown, Claremont McKenna, Wellesley, Tufts, UCLA, Pomona, Georgetown, George Washington
General Comments:
I am actually extremely stoked because my regent scholarship gives me enough money to cover all of my family’s financial need. I was expecting to be accepted but I wasn’t expecting to be able to afford it because the state usually doesn’t give a lot of aid. I guess there’s some program that allows low income families to pay lower tuition prices that I didn’t know about. My family is really excited! I really actually love UCSD and I am going to seriously consider attending if I am not accepted to Claremont McKenna (my family really wants me to stay in CA). I might go to Triton Day so maybe I’ll see some of you there!

Reflection:
So happy I got in!! I feel pretty lucky.

Strengths:
Essays, ACT score
Weaknesses: GPA
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: ACT score
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted at Penn State University, UCSB and UMiami.
Rejected from WUSTL, deferred EA Georgetown, waitlisted to UCDavis, still waiting to hear back from many.

Does anyone have anything in their financial aid award section? Like the blue and gold or the middle class scholarship?

@yellowmamba45‌ “I got a rock”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EXpklvbrNk

@patertrium‌ so did i… i thought I was qualified for the middle class scholarship forsure :frowning: is there any chance those will apply later or we basically get what we have right now?

@yellowmamba45‌ Sorry I don’t know more about the process. I’m just happy UCSD costs less than private college yet has so much to offer.

I need advice!! I was accepted to ERC as an OOS student. UCSD gave me great scholarship that covers 100% of my resident tuition and expenses. Alas, being OOS that leaves the huge out of state supplement. Conversely, University of Michigan and University of Virginia gave me 100% scholarships that cover everything even though I am OOS. Can I really justify borrowing a ton to attend UCSD when I can go to either Michigan or UVA for free. Is UCSD worth it? I’m bummed!!

Would international students get the packet?

Hi, I have a question about the college selection. I have been admitted as Undeclared for Sixth College. My first choice major was Computer Science and Engineering, and Sixth was my 5th choice. I’m really bummed out because I didn’t get my top choices… Is this a mistake?

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): [/li]
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Personal Statements
[
] Weaknesses: GPA wasn’t super high compared to others, test scores are really low! I’m not that great of a test taker… I didn’t have the time and money for SAT/ACT prep classes either.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly thought I would get rejected! But knowing UCSD is a service oriented school, I was able to show them that while I was able to maintain a high GPA, I was also able to serve many people in my community. I think my activity in church is very unique and stood out to them.[/li]
[/ul]General Comments: They just don’t look at numbers! This is really important to remember. I’m still in shock that I’m accepted and I’m really excited to go to my dream school. I’m sorta bummed I’m not part of the Honors program (but I’ not actually surprised) because Irvine invited me to be a part of theirs. But it’s ok! I did my best I was able to get in!
I also got in to Thurgood Marshall which is my first choice.

@excanuck99: Don’t go into debt for undergrad if you don’t have to, especially if you plan on going to grad/professional school in four years. If you have to borrow a lot of money to attend UCSD, it is probably better to go to Michigan or UVA (comparable choices from a reputation perspective). Of course I know nothing of your particular situation, or whether programs at UCSD are more aligned with your interests, etc. etc.

@Digitallyshrewd‌ it might just take longer by mail.

@BigNuinui‌ don’t worry about it! A lot of students don’t get the college they wanted. Generally, people are very happy with whichever they end up in.
