What is the yield theory?
around 3 pm
We can’t assume that the majority of UCD admits this year are low stats applicants. We, on CC, are only a small proportion compared to the rest of the admits. We don’t know. Maybe the percentage of low stats and high stats are relative close with one another. So far I’ve been seeing those got in with 1200, 1300, 1400, and some 1500 sat applicants got in.
Many people at my school that have the highest stats got waitlisted while others that had lower stats got accepted. Everyone is shocked that some people at my school even got waitlisted or accepted. I do think that this yield theory is true.
That’s not always true. There is always the unknown element of recommendations and essays. For example, myself and a couple other of my friends with perfect ACT scores got Regents at UCD. Just a reminder that theories are only theories and nothing more.
No offense to people who got waitlisted at UCD but why are we talking about yield theory in this chat? Are people worried that UCSD might do the same or what?
My son 3.98UW/4.66W, 1520SAT, SATII Math2 800, SAT2 Physics 800, 36ACT, 14APs, National Merit Finalist, National AP Scholar, National Champion Science Olympiad, Varsity Swim, Varsity Water Polo, Junior Olympics Club Water Polo, various other ECs - UCD Regents, UCB Regents, UCSB Regents, nothing from UCI yet (they gave out Regents to at least some already nobody knows for sure if it’s all of them). Denial Stanford. Waitlist Caltech. Accepted USC (Presidential/NMF), Ga Tech, UT Austin, ASU (NMF), Co Mines. Just another data point. Difficult to try to understand what the admissions offices are looking for at any given school, much less comparing different schools. My nephew accepted Stanford and Harvey Mudd, rejected UIUC and USC. Who knows? Good luck to everyone!
@SarcasticPanda snowball effect
How do you know your nephew was rejected from USC?
@stargirl888 last year results for nephew
yeah c’mon guys 6 more UCs are on their way. lets try to keep our positivity up and move on from UCD.
@kevbostic kinda seems like you were desperately grabbing for some way to brag about your sons accomplishments
he has great stats, what do you expect
@kevbostic and everyone else - what major you apply for has alot to do with it as well as URM, 1st gen and all other subjective criteria. No one will ever know “why” they are not accepted. Last year I knew a valedictorian who was very involved in alot of ECs got rejected at most of the schools that kid applied. Why? we don’t know. Anything is all speculative. The most important thing I take away from all of this is that it is just NOT stats (test scores and grades) and that is very hard for many to understand.
@LvMyKids2 does URM have an impact on admissions? I thought the UCs didn’t exercise Affirmative Action
@oliverhannaoui they don’t but they are still biased to be honest. They just don’t look at race on paper but in reality… (coming from a URM)
Ok, so since everyone is saying that they call to let URMs and 1st Gen students who were admitted know before general admissions, are we talking about those who were top in admissions in terms of stats/other criteria, just normal students who got in or in general most/all URMs and 1st Gen that got in? Does anyone know?
@Kosmonavt Everyone at my school is a low-income, high achieving, first generation student and they do not call all of us. It might be random?
