@lbm2023: @lkg4answers pretty much summed up the resources where you can find the information. I just put the information together by campus and I continue to update/edit as I come across more or new information.
I did not complete one consecutive year of an arts class as I was offered an internship instead and I mentioned this in my application because my a-g was not completed because of it. I noted that I have played piano and guitar since I wish much younger however. How will the UC schools respond?
I am an OOS student who doesn’t have my UC schools to high on the list so I am not too worried, but I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts.
@GreenHamAndEggs: A response to a similar question from the UC application department.
**While the University of California have a set pattern of academic courses that are required for admission, we understand that these subject requirements may be difficult for some applicants to meet due to differences in school curriculum.
All applications for admission are reviewed within the context of courses available to them; if a particular required subject is not available, we will consider the application without it. We would not deny an applicant due to any one single criteria, therefore if the applicant is otherwise a strong competitive applicant but they are missing the VPA course (1 semester or the entire year) we can still admit that student.
There is no single academic path that we expect all students to follow, but the strongest applicants take the most rigorous high school curriculum available to them.
If you find that you are unable to fulfill the requirement with any of the above options you can explain the reason why in the additional comments section. Please be aware that failure to fulfill all requirements will have a negative impact on your application.**
Awesome thank you so much! I figured they would be understanding of it, and I sent them a note in the additional comments section, but I was getting a bit nervous but now I feel better! Thanks!
@GreenHamAndEggs
I’m in a similar situation. I switched schools halfway through- I did 9th and 10th at the normal HS I was zoned to, and 11th and 12th I did at a lottery choice school. Because of this I was never able to take an art class since my new school offers only one art class and 1. I didn’t have space in my schedule and 2. I thought taking another math class would be more beneficial than taking a freshman art class just for some school’s requirement, especially since I’m looking at engineering. Since art is a grad req for my district, I was able to test out of the requirement through the piano lessons I have been taking for 12 years. But I spent a lot of time on the phone with UC admissions because this technically didn’t satisfy the a-g requirement since there’s no “class” that I took 2 semesters of explicitly stated on my transcript. SO what I’ve been doing is taking an online art class that I’m set to finish before I graduate. If I decide to attend a UC, I’ll finish the class- if not, I can cancel without a fee. I just got into Davis and SB though so I will be calling them and asking if my acceptance there is contingent on finishing this online class. After reading the paragraph that @Gumbymom posted, I think they might let me get away with not finishing the class- it’s so much extra work (that I don’t think is super important) on top of 7 academic classes at school and another online course on the side.
Long story short- you’ll probably be fine if you explained it well. I just wanted you to know you’re not alone and this sitation definitely happens! Good luck!
Who applied to art history? I did not submit my portfolio, which is optional but is it a optomatic rejection if i did not turn in? I actually want ucsd at this point cuz i lost all hope for other uc.
SO are decisions being released today? Some people claim on reddit that they called the UCSD admissions office and they said not today and only within the next week and a half (30th?). I don’t know who to believe but I am inclined to believe it is today because of (a) the fact that the calling campaign has started and (b) UCLA is coming out today. Thoughts?
@putinator Decisions probably are coming out today. The 30th is a saturday, and most school’s admissions offices are closed on saturdays. In the past UCSD has come out the same day as UCLA (sometimes earlier I believe, but never later). If they don’t come out today I’d expect the 28th at the latest, same day as Cal.
The published admissions criteria for UCSD states “the campus does not admit students on the basis of academic major.” Does that mean that the choice of major has no effect on one’s chances for admission? So it is equally hard for gender studies majors and computer science majors to be admitted?
I think that they originally anticipated to release decisions last week @tomasivan but because of scandal and UCLA delay they decided to wait until today. Not sure. Just my reasoning
