Hi, I applied to UCSD as a cogsci major because it seems really interesting, but is it impacted/capped? I went on the website and it doesn’t look impacted, so does that mean I’ll have a higher chance getting in?
What are stats and are you at or above the 50th percentile for both UC Capped GPA and test scores? Do you have any major related EC’s and how were your personal insight essays? UCSD admits into the University first and then into the major. Cognitive Science is not a capped major but you will still be evaluated for admission into the University first before being considered for your 1st choice major.
Cognitive Science sounds interesting but it would be hard to find a job. I know someone graduated from this major and ended up doing something with no relationship with Cognitive Science such as biotech research assistant, human resources, sales, etc. Some went to become teachers. It is a major of a few different skills but no employer is looking for graduate from Cognitive Science. It maybe to just go to Computer Science. There are tons of jobs for computer science but almost none for cognitive science. It should not be an impact major.
My DS also applied for this major (Cognitive Science: Behavioral Neuroscience) because this is what he was a field that he was interested in and was told that UCSD has an excellent program. However, he didn’t think about the job prospect post-graduation. Wouldn’t this be the type of field where in order to be truly successful, requires a PhD and work in a research community? Or can this lead to a MS in Psychology or something? Sorry, I’m a bit ignorant on this field.
