warren, muir and TMC have the better GEs...go for warren =)

I really want to know more about the other colleges. After those pictures, Muir isnt an option.

LOL. They're not that bad. Just not your 5 star hotels.

Actually Tioga is really nice now, and the rooms are pretty freakin' huge. Muir is really not that bad. Very spacious, even if you're even in Tenaya, and the GEs rock in all sorts of ways.

Muir is the best college, hands down.

Muir girls tend to be better looking than the other colleges, but with that said, they are still not that great looking.

Muir for social
Warren for peace
ERC for nice rooms as you study
Marshall for easy late night food
Sixth if you hate life
Revelle if you hate everything

After reading all of your replies, I think that Muir's GEs makes it the best college for me. But I'm not much of a partier, so I'm a little worried about not fitting into the most "social" college at UCSD...

Ok, look. If anything, as much as I don't like to say this, you're have more trouble looking for the social scene than avoiding it. If you don't want to party, it's so easily avoided because (1) we have no frat row, (2) the partiers will be mainly off campus. But on the same hand, if you do want to party, just know the right people at the right time and they'll get you to all the parties you wanted.
Not that you have to party to get on the social scene. There is an adequate (note: not a plenthora but adequate) number of non-party ways to get social.

^how would you know this? You've been here less than two weeks, and you think you have everything figured out?

Have you even been to TJ or the Gaslamp yet? Wait, scratch the gaslamp, they won't even let you in.

shrug It was just my interpretation of what some sophomore and junior friends have been telling me.

Oh right. Sorry, subject. Forgot you had the universe figured out already. Maybe I should leave all the explaining to you instead. /sarcasm

Well, I don't want to be too harsh on you, but it is really not that black and white.

The issue lies more along the lines of "openness". The social scene here is overly cliquish and exclusionary for a college, and there is noticeable division along racial lines (but it is not that bad in that respect within the school, but if you venture into San Diego it is pretty bad).

And it is not even about knowing people in Greeks, it is more like knowing people in SDSU, UCSB or UCLA.

Of course, this is talking about the "social" UCSD kids, which is definitely a minority at UCSD. Most UCSD kids are so boring, they probably go straight from home to school then home, and they get their dates and friends all from study groups.

That I have to agree with.
I have noticed some racial divisions amongst other people. I would like to think that my friends so far have been pretty diverse (well, mayhaps a little more "brown people" than diversity allows, but nonetheless). But I do see a lot of all asians groups or white only groups around campus.
And also, so far, I've been lucky to have links to people with friends at SDSU, frat, UCLA and so forth, but we shall see how the social life unfolds as the year goes on.

And I know I don't know all and I know there's more, but I was just trying to simplify for our unknowing visitor.

Edit: :( Yea. I decided to chill at campus this weekend, and walked around campus and it was dead empty. On my way from Gilman Parking back to Muir, I saw maybe a grand total of 5-10 people. I was floored, to say the least, to see how dead the campus is. My guess was that everyone (1) went home for the weekend, (2) holed up in their dorms, or (3) ;o was elsewhere not on campus. No more chilling on campus from now on.

Yep, welcome to UCSD. I'll bet you could get mugged on a saturday here on campus and no one would see it.

And forget about parties on campus. My first quarter here, I was placed on residential college probation before even the first round of midterms, and I am by no means a trouble maker or anything. The RSO's here suck ass. I loathe them, and those parking service people. Oh, and the registrar people suck too.

The students here are not that racist, they are okay, not liberal, but Not really that racist either. But if you go into San Diego, there is a lot of overt racism.

Haha, at least 4 of my friends are received at least one "violation notification" and the sad part is, one of them wasn't even drinking then.

I can imagine that San Diego = conservative rich white people? :

But still. Nonetheless. I think UCSD is pretty cool if you just know how to get around.

No offense, but why is it that Oyama's dorm looks so much nicer than syneria's (as in, the WALL - from the pictures, it looks like floor tiles :( )

does muir have more than one dorm?

Of the four walls in the rooms, two walls are cinder blocks (i guess that's the floor tiles you were talking about?) and two walls are flat. My wall that I took the picture of is one of the two cinder block walls.

Oh, and he's in Tenaya and I'm in Tioga. Structure-wise, it's the same though.

I'm just better than Diana :D

Saranghae, foo

</3

I hate you, Kenny.

so far, i've realized sd really does feel "socially dead" at times, esp. on weekends. the only way u can get around is having good connections and maybe joining a frat or something..

personally i'm REALLY into sports, esp. college sports...and they don't have any of the bigger name sports like football..they have basketball, but they're not d-1 and they can't make the NCAA tournament. if we had football, i guarantee the campus wouldn't be so dead all the time. i guess we spend that money on concerts instead (like the recent gym class heroes one) but sports would be much better. instead, we're forced to watch other college football teams on TV and envy the fact that they have teams. =(.

Yea. Our lack of football makes our campus lackluster. :( At least our water polo team is teh ****z though.

shrug My friends are on Ramadan and we're having midterms so I'm not partying for a few weeks. I feel a bit out of sync with fun, and haven't had the chance to feel bored yet, but once Ramadam+midterms = done, I will be hitting up the parties hard. Hopefully.

I am looking forward to the inner tube water polo games though.
