Choosing colleges? GE/ERC? I'M CONFUSED

So I started my UC apps last night and I am completely lost. How on earth do I rank colleges in UCSD?

I did some research on UCSD website but I have no idea what they are talking about... and I tried reading stuff on CC but I still don't get it... with those weird acronyms like GE and ERC... what are they anyways?

If I rank one college as #1 and there is no space, do I get automatically rejected, or placed in another college?

Also... if you don't mind, please chance me to UCSD?

4.0 UW/4.25 W... took 2 honors classes sophomore year and 3 AP classes junior year. Got 5s on APUSH, APES, and Calc AB. Currently taking 3 AP senior year.
SAT I: First try 2040 (CR 630/M 750/W 660); Second try 2060 (CR 590/M 760/W 710)
SAT II: US History 700; Korean 800; Math IIC Pending (November)
200+ service hours
Decent ECs... holding 2 leadership positions including Editor-in-Chief for yearbook

Not to be mean but seriously read the archives. Search “Six colleges” under UCSD’s forum and you will find a plethora of results.

GE = general education requirement. Basic classes (math, science, etc) that you need to graduate UCSD. The GE’s vary based on your college.

ERC = Eleanor Roosevelt College, one of the six colleges at UCSD.

No, you won’t be automatically rejected. It is far more likely that you will be placed in a college lower on your list.

in order of GE’s

muir
warren (or warren first if you are an engineer)

marshall
revelle / ERC / 6th

Warren
Muir
Marshall
…

ERC wins the dorms category! just sayin
