I was looking forward to getting one, but… I’m Asian, so hahah…

Yeah-- Asian and Black here, haha.

Haha ^ that’s such a cool mix! I’ve always thought mixed people are the best looking.

Haha, thanks. For anyone that missed UCkittychen’s link, this is from Ms. Sun’s blog:

“Sounds like UCSD is starting to call admitted frosh students on the phone to congratulate them. This is probably the third year UCSD has been doing this. You may get the call in the evening from a current UCSD student, staff, or faculty member. There is no need to be alarmed if you miss the call. The phone calls are part of an effort to make UCSD appear more friendly to prospective students. For those of you who already got the call, congratulations!!! Since the admit pool is large and the calls go out in the evenings, expect the call campaign to last at least a week if not two weeks.”

My daughter got in SLO for IE. I’m an eng also, and we love hiring SLO engineers compare to UC. UC eng are good too, but SLO engineers seem ready to work after a BS. It’s tough to say that since I am a UCD ChE grad from the 80s. UC grad tend to be more ready for grad school. Just my thought. Good luck.

aahhh 4.05 UC GPA and 31 ACT, fingers crossed!

2012engmom - Where will your daughter go? My son has been admitted to one UC so far and Cal Poly for EE. Do grad schools welcome Cal Poly grads too?

how do ucs know your school ranking?

closetobroke – Cal Poly and USC are her 2 top choices. Plenty of Cal Poly kids go to grad school too, but from what we can tell, they are very well adapted to working in the field and in the actual business setting. Depends of which UC your son got into, Cal Poly eng program is competitive to many UCs. Best of all, from my earlier tour of SLO last year, they still have smaller classes than UCs in general. If he is not sure, tour the campus and their eng labs which are amazing. The freshmen get to be in it the first yr of college. I told my daughter that if it is not what she wants to do, at least, she will not be wasting her time too long in a major before finding that out. She likes UCSD campus, but not sure any of their program would work for her. Good luck to your son.

to 2012engmom - My son has been admitted to the electrical engineering major at UCSB in addition to at Cal Poly. How does UCSB rate compare to Cal Poly in your opinion? Thanks much!

Anybody know the # for this call? I got missed calls from a lot of #s with weird area codes and was wondering if I got the call but just missed it.

area code has to be 858, calls are random so not everyone would get a call.

closetobroke – I think both are good schools. I’ve not hired any EE but hubbie has. My specialty is in ChE and Env. Eng. We think both are good schools and the students can succeed in either school if they are driven. I believe UCSB has a nobel price winner on staff for EE right now. For someone going into EE, that’s pretty exciting. We toured both schools last summer and my daughter decided not to apply UCSB after the tour mostly because it is hard to get into freshmen classes which may delay her from going into eng classes later. Most of all, she really likes the IEng program which UCSB does not offer. Good luck to him.

I got a call. Invited me to breakfast with faculty and the dean of engineering. Not going to go to UCSD though

Doener - Yeah, we know. You did early restricted action for Stanford. Congrats. We hope you have already let UCSD as well as all other schools you applied to know you will not be attending.

UCSD decisions will be out on March 17th!

Doener - Just wondering, but why do you still go on the UCSD thread if you know for sure that you’re not attending…

Because this is the first college admission that I can actually celebrate. I was the only one of my friends who got into stanford. So there was a gloomy mood after the early action cycle.

And I paid so much money to have my applications evaluated. I want my money’s worth.

So you come on here to brag about how you were invited to a breakfast that no one else got invited to. Okay.
