UCSD Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

@Blue0222 not sure how many of the pre med requirements you have taken at community college but you should stop doing that. Med schools hate when you take their requirements at a community college because they are aware that the rigor is substantially lower than at a 4 year institution. so you should take the rest when you transfer and get to the 4 year university. just a heads up because many people aren’t aware of this.

@NotJustAlyssa what were the pre reqs for the visual arts media major ?
also is there a chi o chapter in UCSD ?

Has anyone’s message updated on their portal yet? Mine still says something about the transfer academic update… ugh I’m gonna be a long time till mid march/april.

Does anyone know if I can still change my major??

It would probably be easier to change it once you’re admitted to the university.

Also, this thread is low-key kinda sad. The last two years they were so big?! This one is just so dead.

@ClaydeVassallo Have you already applied? Then probably no, you can either get in to the major you applied and then change the major, or reapply next year to the major you want, but give them a call - who knows…

@blackonyx Awesome! Less people = more chances for us (at least I prefer to think that it will be less people transferring this year)
Oh, I just realized why this thread is so dead - I created it in UC Transfers, then some moderator moved it to UC San Diego.

@lenocturne I hope thats the case! One of the counselors at my CC used to be a UCSD admissions officer. He said last year they were hurting for people, since they wait listed too many people and then ended up letting all the wait list people in if they wanted it. From what I can gather they cut off GPA at around 3.5 for transfer and then wait listed down to 3.0. He thinks they may lower it a little for this year so they don’t run into that problem… Fingers crossed! I’m at a 3.47 after TAU.

Finally, a UCSD thread!! I’m surprised there aren’t more people on here…

Major: Public Health
GPA: 3.53
Major GPA: 3.74
IGETC: Complete
Pre-req: Currently finishing the last two courses needed.
EC’s: work study, volunteer work, etc.

Slightly nervous because my gpa is quite low for a science major and because public health is a capped major at ucsd.

Mathematics major
4.00 GPA
IGETC, no TAP
All prerequisites completed
ECs–Working full-time

Good luck
:ar!

why is this thread so dead

@UCLAstan Yo, right? It’s kinda sad. There’s no conversation going on. Looking at the threads for the past few years they were so active. Maybe no many transfer applicants?

I think it will pick up the closer we get to the decision dates.

Hello! I am a CCC transfer currently going thru an art and film major pathway. I was rejected from CSUF last year for the animation major for fall 2016. After getting rejected, I decided to give the UCs a try. I didn’t bother to appeal because I knew I would be placed in the same position again. I didn’t apply to any CSUs for backup btw for fall 2017 so I’m risking it. My dream career is to become an animator, but right now I’m not going to fixate myself for just one career. I’m expanding my career/major options and hopefully it will be done at UCSD or any other school.

I would like someone to chance me because UCSD is on my top three list right now. Here are my stats:

Major: Visual Arts - media
GPA: 3.4/3.42
Schools applied: UCLA, UCSD, UCR, and UCI
Pre-reqs: currently taking Spanish I for foreign language requirement, History of Modern Art from UCSD assist.org, and 3 other classes for pre-reqs from my school’s major transfer sheets and assist.
ECs: part-time caregiver for 2 years, volunteer service on MLK Jr day for 6 years, participation in church events, pathfinders, TLT (teen leadership training), worked as a support clerk for the 2016 presidential elections, AVID in high school, and editor for high school publications. I’m not really involved with clubs at my school, although I wish I could have.
TAG: UCI - art

I’m confident because I’ve been doing well in school so far and I completed a majority of classes/pre-reqs from IGETC, major transfer sheets, and from assist.org, but at the same time I’m nervous. But hopefully whatever happens, I’ll be happy with it.

Pretty nervous about it…

CCC
Major: Engineering Physics
Vet, first generation college
GPA:3.9ish
Igetc and major prep done this spring.

Work full time for the Navy

I have a couple of F’s from 2006, in dumb stuff that I didn’t bother to drop back before I joined the military. I also have 6 withdraws, 4 from work related travel. So I’m definitely not the strongest applicatant.

Good luck to everyone.

@Billnb How do you have a 3.9 with a couple of F’s? Do you mean 2.9? Not trying to be rude just curious.

What are your F’s in? Also, I wouldn’t be worried about the W’s. I have a couple of them. They shouldn’t mind those but an F is a lot more concerning.

@blackonyx

Didn’t take it as rude at all. I was calculating as if those grades were replaced after I retook them/other classes. They were in English 101, Intermediate algebra, and CSC 100 “intro to computers”. I retook all of those courses and pulled A’s, except for csc100 because it wasn’t offered here( took C and C++ instead.)

Assuming they don’t get replaced, I applied with 74 UC transfer units at a roughly 3.9 GPA (3.87). Assuming all three are counted that will drop me down to 3.45 roughly. After this semester I’ll end with 90 UC transferable flat.

I’m hoping that since they’re over a decade old they don’t get looked at too hard. I have one B in LA and one C in diffyQ (both three units) that don’t play into my favor either since they’re major prep. I did that to myself though. All the rest are A’s.

Including non UC transferable courses I had closer to 84 units at time of application, which could help the overall GPA calc, but not by much.

Good to hear Ws may not sink me, they’re what I’m thinking hurts me most, but I had to work.

Major: Economics
GPA: 3.14 (it never hurts to try LOL)
IGETC: I just went off Assist and about three counselors said that was fine soo…
Essays: Honestly idk. I’d give myself 8/10
Schools applied: ucsd, ucsc, ucr, ucd, sjsu, cpp, csuf, csuci, and csusb
Accepted: so far only sjsu and csuci

I know this thread if for transfers, but just want to help freshman applicants find their thread. The freshman applicants thread is kind of hard to find, but its there and is more active than this thread, w/ about 11 pgs. so far

@Billnb Oh ok, so you retook the F’s… That makes more sense! I actually have an F myself from like 7 years ago. I was right out of high school and took it online. I didn’t really understand the online thing/didn’t care. Few years later I retook it and got an A. Sucks but it does happen. As long as they see you retook it and got an A, they shouldn’t really hold it against you. Also, UCSD is pretty much strictly numbers, a 3.9 is really admirable!

@Billnb I think your W’s shouldn’t affect you. You’re a veteran and you have reason for the W’s. My guess is they just don’t want to see a bunch of uncommitted students applying.
