@lovelei you NEED to complete the forms because if you don’t it will take a longer time for them to give you your result. I also don’t have the “Change your major” option anymore but I think it’s because they started on reviewing applications. Also, DON’T forget, fill those forms…
@AdultSwimFan I’ve completed all the forms. There’s nothing new for me to do… the last thing on the checklist was the transfer update which I did in January and I did all the like residency and other forms when I first logged into their portal.
And Haha, sorry for the freak out guys it’s just I haven’t checked the portal in so long that I wasn’t sure what was normal and what wasn’t
I was accepted last year. As far as hearing back, I remember talking to someone from on of my community college classes last spring and she heard back from UCSD mid march. I heard back third Friday of April. I would count on having to wait until April. I’m not sure why they do this. But I’d say VERY few hear back in march. By the trend of the last few years, decisions should come out April 20th. I know it sucks but you guys are almost there! Good luck!
@blackonyx Hey, it’s you! I’ve seen you plenty of times from last years thread. So, How’s life on the other side? I hope you’re enjoying UCSD!
@quaivoltaire do you attend UCSD at the moment? If so, how is it?!
I transferred last fall and most of us heard back the very last Friday of April - I remember checking for my acceptance around 4pm-ish and it was there. Honestly, based on our experience last year and the several waves preceding our year, it’ll probably be the same. Not sure how they genuinely decide when to send out whose acceptance because I remember plenty of high GPA and non-impacted majors getting their acceptances the last week. IMO, it’s a lottery system (I transferred with a 4.0 major GPA and about a 3.85ish overall GPA).
Good luck to y’all, the next month or so is gonna suck, lol.
Feel free to ask specific questions! I’m in the vis arts department, but I have extensive knowledge of the engineering field (my other half) if that’s of interest to anyone.
@thecolorblue Hi! Yes, I’m a current student at UCSD. It’s a beautiful campus! The food spots nearby are yummy - Sprinkles, Mendocino Farms… La Jolla is a nice kickback place. The students are sweethearts too - at least in my experience in the Humanities Did you have any questions about anything in particular?
@thinkweism Hey! I know you from the first page from last years thread lol. Anyways, What do you think about the cognitive science major in UCSD? Do you think I’m able to collaborate with people from visual arts?
@quaivoltaire Have you been to Snooze? It’s in the same shopping center as Mendocino Farms and 10/10 recommend.
If you don’t mind me asking, how easy is it to get to UTC without a car? Are there UCSD buses that go there?
@gonewiththeair I haven’t! But it looks heavenly - I’ll have to check it out after one of my Friday seminars.
I wish that I could answer your question about navigating UCSD without a car. But I always drove mine since I’m a commuter from LA. I believe there are buses, though… Other students seem to use them a lot. My memory is simply too horrible to guarantee that I’ve seen a stop in front of UTC. ;p
@gonewiththeair Multiple busses stop from the UCSD campus’s Gilman transit center to UTC!
@AdultSwimFan yup, that’s me! I remember how stressful it was to be in your position last year, so I’m trying to be helpful where I can be (this thread saved me and a few others from going crazy; now we do that on our FB group or on campus, lmao).
From a few of my peers, I know the CogSci department is relatively strong. They love it. I’m honestly surprised it isn’t a capped major yet, given how many cog sci majors I’ve met in a few of my classes. Funnily enough, my partner/main collaborative partner on one of my studio projects right now is a cog sci major! I was fortunate to get him because he’s all about cog sci and I appreciate the research, information, and collaboration he offers. I’m fortunate that UCSD is such a STEM-dominant school and the interdisciplinary thing is preetty common. I’ve collaborated with pre-med and a few engineers (who have overlooked and done analyses for my projects)!
eta: Collaboration was made possible with visual arts classes that I know some people took as a GE or as an elective. But I do projects around campus with the theater department and we have some STEM people who act, do stage production, etc.
@gonewiththeair It’s very easy to get to UTC from UCSD and the surrounding area. We have two major bus loops that run from UTC to UCSD and, likewise, UCSD to UTC every 10 minutes on weekdays (15 on weekends). UTC is also a major transit center so other bus routes run through there as well.
@quaivoltaire I’m happy to hear all of that! How are the classes, are they easier or harder than community colleges? Also, are the on-campus dorms nice?
@thecolorblue Speaking for my discipline alone, the professors in Philosophy are top-notch. A few of them are still razor sharp from being recent PhDs and postdocs. (I also had a Ginsberg class with a literature/poetry professor. He was a character. I recommend William O’Brien to anyone with a pulse.) I’ve wanted to transfer because it’s a four hour drive daily, but the caliber of the profs is too high. Rec letters from UCSD faculty go a long way. The classes are more difficult than comm. college in the sense that I’m very self-conscious about participating due to profs being scary smart. Stakes are higher, so to speak, because these are future colleagues in your chosen field!
Transfers and upperclassmen are usually placed in the Village. The Westward dorms have an ocean view. Lots of opportunities to have a sweet balcony in the large tower(s). It blissed me out to crawl down from my bunk and stare at the sea. Most classes as well as the library are a fifteen minute walk (minimum!), so that part sucks, but if you arrive a little early you can shuttle over. The Village also has the best market on campus, imo, and The Bistro has fantastic Asian cuisine. There are also nearly 24-hr study spots - such as North Break - to get your hw grind on.
In short: I can’t recommend UCSD highly enough! Are you planning on transferring?
@quaivoltaire @ucsdcscholar @thinkweism Thank you guys so much! I live pretty close to UCSD so will probably end up bringing my car anyway if I get in/go there but I’m not 100% sure as I would like to avoid that! I’ll wait until results to decided
There should be a meetup in triton day with transfers from last year’s and this year’s thread! I feel like it’s a great experience for transfers to get along!
@AdultSwimFan OMG i’ve been recognized. lol i’m sooo famous! lmao. UCSD is good! Quarter system is rough but it gets better.
@quaivoltaire That actually sounds fun! I’m ready to get into some harder classes since I feel like community colleges don’t challenge you as much. Thank you for answering my questions, it’s such a relief! Yep, I applied here, UCLA, UCI, and UCB, but I kind of want to go to college in southern California. What colleges did you apply to?
The application page looks different… did they change the format?
Also does anyone know their student ID number (The one that starts with an “A” - not the application ID number)?
When you get your “Welcome to the University of California San Diego, My Application site.” e-mail, your PID should be listed on there as “A12345678”
