You guys look at the new UC transfer by major stats? I don’t know when the updated them but when we were originally applying we only had the stats for 2017. I don’t know about other colleges but it looks like most of UCSD’s 2018 stats were lower GPA wise than 2017. Don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad thing for us, might even be irrelevant.
Okay, yeah not trying to get you super nervous haha! At this point, it’s just a waiting game and completely up to the Uni. I wouldn’t totally lose hope though, the 4.0 GPA is something that holds a lot of weight. I do know that at other tougher UCs, you can get rejected solely due to not having prereqs done.

^ there is a video of that exact thing happening to someone (he got in a year later though after completing everything!).
@Trashception If you check the spreads from previous years, you will find transfers being admitted by UCs without pre-req such as Cal 2 completed. It is rare but it is possible. I have a friend who got into UCSD International Business Major without Cal 2 done. He finished it in Fall and will take some classes this summer to catch up.
My point is that do not generalize that people will absolutely get rejected because of not finishing one pre-req or two. It depends.
@sagaciousforever I completely agree! That’s why I said they shouldn’t lose hope :). Just as you said, at the tougher UCs, such as UCLA-- they will reject bc of major preps not done. Of course it depends on situation, nothing is ever finite.
I am so anxious, i just want them to release admissions?
are we there yet…are we there yet…are we there yet…please let us be there yet. hahah
@Scoobybrew I’ve noticed that difference too! My friend told me about her friend getting into CS (his alt) when he applied for physics and had a normal gpa (don’t think he did all of the pre-reqs for CS too). She lowkey thinks that they made a mistake or something lol. I was surprised when the 2018 data came out, their admitted gpa range definately lowered.
UCSD is perceived as one of the most flexible of the UCs in terms of missing requirements. I am basing this on comments from years’ past. No solid knowledge.
@Ohm888 I am missing the second English requirement.
I applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and UCI. I hope the flexibility will at least get me into UCSD and UCI.
We will see soon.
Oh, if you’re missing the second English that’s pretty much non-negotiable as it’s the minimum requirement (two English and the quant math). Did the advisor at your CCC ever say anything about it?
@Ohm888 I am not from CC. I am from Pepperdine and none of my upper division/second English composition would count for UC’s second English. I did not take it in at a CC because I interned during my freshman year summer.
Anyways, my focus is USC and Emory, as they are very lenient on the pre-reqs. I did not complete the lower division writing class for USC and my admission counselor told me that it’s fine. If I were to be admitted, I just need to complete it in order to graduate.
I don’t really know why UC can’t allow transfer applicants to take missing pre-reqs (1 or 2 maximum) in the summer or perhaps in the regular quarters. This would cost students to spend more tuition on taking those courses.
Wouldn’t this be a good thing because they earn more money? I know that classes are extremely full but I simply do not get why.
Heres something I’ve been pondering since I applied and I realize this is relative to the college at UCSD you get into but… how many GE’s are they requiring us to take after transfer. For engineering they are showing 9-10 more outside of technical electives … that can’t be right! the equivalent of almost an entire year of quarters full of GE’s? talk about a grab at your wallet. “Hi I’ve done 7-8 semester of calculus based math, 3 semesters of calculus based physics, and several semesters of true stem based Chemistry and biology on top of many semesters of English, Business, History, Sociology, philosophy etc… and I can’t wait to focus on my upper division degree requirements!..” (Administrator):“Well don’t forget you still need 9 more quarters of poetry, ancient Mayan art, silent film studies, and underwater basket weaving before you graduate!”. Someone please tell me most if not all of those GE’s are taken out from our transfer work.
@Scoobybrew I think it somewhat depends on which of the six colleges you get into cause they all have their own elective requirements, like I know one of them requires a 3 quarter sequence of some type of cultural humanity… thing.
I feel your pain as a biology major… I’m so tired of those classes. I think we get credit for most of our electives and don’t have to do as many as you said, but again, depending on which one of the colleges you get into, they can require a few more.
@tinedancer I hope you are right! I think GE’s are the biggest waste of time IMHO. At least they are structured or focused poorly. Instead of reading text books about the evolution of music in a certain area. Why not get school credit for learning to play a new instrument? Instead of learning about the emergence of Indy films in some decade 50-70 years ago. Why not learn how to edit and create quality youtube videos for your own channel? Learn how to do something instead of read about something. Sorry to rant, I just think they are so pointless the way they are set up.
@Scoobybrew I understand the point ya know, having a “well rounded education” and all but I think it’s just too many. Especially for STEM majors because we already have so many units to compete, no matter what STEM major, like I’m doing ecology, which I will do absolutely no math in, but I still have to take calc 2+, Physics 2+, etc.
When they pile on the humanity requirements it’s just… so much to do. I’m transferring with over 100 semester units because of it.
<= 19 more days!
I’d bet it is 11 or fewer days! UCSD has never (to my knowledge) released after UC Berkeley.
Uh…UCSD released April 26th last year.
@tinedancer I understand your situation. I took ochem I at cc but then I had a health issue so I had to drop it. But I am taking ochem I and II through a different university because I know I won’t be able to get in anywhere without completing the ochem series.
