Anyone want to be a legend and call UCSD admissions office and ask them if decisions are coming out next week?
The only problem of the ranking is that they are not considering the size of
each university(I might have read it wrong). Larger universities have advantage
in the ranking.
For example, I do not see Cal Tech. My husband graduated from Cal Tech,
and many of his friends work in Silicon Valley.
I totally understand someone wants to look for prestige when choosing
a college.
Cal Tech is a tough school, and not too many graduate with above GPA 3.0,
but they have no trouble finding jobs or getting into prestigious graduate
schools(not just graduate schools for STEM, but also MBA, law school).
One of my husband classmates ended up getting a humanity degree from Cal Tech.
She had no trouble finding a job in Silicon Valley.
@hoppy1 good point.
Thanks for all the bits of advice! Everyone raised some good points that I’ll consider when we hear back from admissions.
Hey guys, I’m freaking out. I got waitlisted to what I considered my safety school (Cal Poly SLO). I’m transferring from a CC with a 4.0 and I’ll have an Associates in Accounting and Business, so I don’t really know how I didn’t get in but that’s a different story. I thought I’d be able to get into UCs relatively easily but getting waitlisted by Cal Poly freaked me out. Do I have a chance at UCSD? I applied for Economics, it wasn’t my first choice but UCSD might be the only choice I have seeing as the only schools remaining are UCB, UCLA, and UCSD.
@JakeRice40 I won’t worry at all. You have a good shot at all of these schools.
Getting waitlisted by Cal Poly might mean that you are overqualified because they might think that you might not attend since you are considering it as your safety school.
Good luck!
@sagaciousforever Thanks for responding and helping put my mind at ease! It’s just a huge fear of mine not to get into any school, so everything is triggering me lol. This will be the longest week ever!
@JakeRice40 I start to understand applicants from CC a bit more now. You guys have so much pressure because you have to spend an extra year of CC if you get rejected by all the schools.
That’s probably why UCs give priority to you guys. I am from Pepperdine so I could always stay if things don’t turn out well.
I didn’t see any requirement for communication major in assist. Does it means there are no pre-req for this major?
^^^ correct
@Ohm888 Thanks!
@sagaciousforever I respect you for saying that. In some cases it’s weirder than that, if I wasn’t accepted this year… I’d literally be tapped out class wise for my CC, there’s no higher classes to take. Oh… but some helpful tips if anyone here decides/has to re-apply next year. At least for UCSD you can dual enroll in a CCC and take 1 class at UCSD per quarter at UCSD… and here’s the kicker… you pay your CCC price for the class (what a deal!). So you can at least knock out 3-5 classes you can’t take at your CCC while waiting to re-apply. So it’s you could potentially cut out 1-2 quarters per year without even being accepted.
Also good luck to everyone here!! I wish you all the best and hope and pray you are accepted! From the the past few years of data we could be hearing back in as soon as 45hrs (assuming a 5pm release but I have no idea what actual time of day they release them). Fingers crossed for everyone!
Unlikely. I think they will release next week before Berkeley.
@scoobybrew Good info! Do you know if this dual enrollment is allowed at every UC?
@bruins8clap I’m just going off the math of it…
in 2018 correct they were (1 day earlier than UCB)
in 2017 they released (4 and 7 days earlier (the Friday and Monday before))
in 2016 (7 days earlier)
in 2015 (7 days earlier)
So including the outlier of (2018) they averaged 5 (full days early)
Not including 2018 as it’s more than a std dev’ off it would average (6.5 days earlier than UCB, which we could either round up to 7 and call it this Friday, or down which would cascade it to next Monday being 4-5 early of UCB (depending on how you count your days based on a 9-5p job).
If we account for the timing of the month I.E how late in the month vs the days prior of UCB, it would lean closer to 7 days earlier as well. Once again just going off the math, I could be totally wrong, if anyone has a better theory then by all means you are probably right.
I emailed UCSD admissions yesterday. They said they did not have an official set date, and I got the point that they were trying to hurry out with decisions to be before Berkeley, but it might not happen.
I hope they all release before Berkeley. UCSD released their decisions so late last year
@spiritualgift unfortunately that’s all I know, I have yet to take advantage of it.
I asked the owner of the catransfercollege site and she said this (she is Lindy King):

Can you get a confirmation by a chance on UCSD and UCLA transfer decision dates?

Berkeley posted April 19 at the start and verified it again with an email. UCSD and UCLA have not given a specific date and the last thing I want to do is bug them with a question they won’t answer. Enough students, unfortunately, are doing that already. My hunch is they’re trying to speed it up based on Berkeley’s announced date, but don’t want to finalize a date they can’t meet.
