Cool to see all the CogSci applicants - my daughter is one also. Do any of you know which area of specialization you’d be interested in within the CogSci major at UCSD?
@CAtransplant CogSci applicant here, I applied for the Design and Interaction. I’m really excited to hear back!
I am trying to decide between specialization in Machine learning and specialization in Neuroscience. But I will probably go for the neuroscience one. Also, I want to minor in Mathematics if it is possible.
Hey guys!! I’m new to this thread. UCSD is my top choice and the wait is unbearable!!
GPA: 3.83
Major: Molecular Biology
Prerequisites: Missing ochem and physics
IGETC: I’ll be missing one by the time I transfer
EC’s: work part-time, hospital volunteer
Applied: SFSU, CSUF, CSUSM, University of San Francisco, UCSB (tag), UCSD
Admitted: SFSU, CSUF, CSUSM, University of San Francisco
Waiting: UCSB, UCSD
I’m kinda nervous about not getting in because I’m missing ochem and physics, not to mention I have three W’s on my transcript. I feel like my essays are strong though
I was thinking machine learning specialization with a minor in either design or data science
Hello, sorry for the late post. I’m new to this thread. UCSD is my top choice.
GPA: 3.59
Major: Computer Engineering
Prerequisites: Missing CSE 15L ,CSE 21, ECE 35, ECE 45, ECE65 ( this courses do not exist in my college)
IGETC: Completed
EC’s: Work as Administrative Assistent.
Applied: UCSD, SDSU, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Berkeley
Admitted: SDSU, UC Riverside .
Waiting: UCSD, UC Irvine, UC Berkeley.
Do you think I’ll get into UCSD? I have a lot of pre req missing, but my college doesn’t have it. I’m really nervous! Thankfully I got accepted into SDSU.
hi @sleepypolarbear! Do you know what type of design you are thinking of a minor in? I applied to major in speculative design! I haven’t seen any design majors on this thread… so if anyone is out there, hello
Hi, I am an International student that currently study at the University of The Pacific, and UCSD is one of my top choices.
GPA: 3.81
Major: Computer Science
Prerequisites: Missing linear Algebra
IGETC: No completed
Applied: UCSD, UCB, UCLA, UCSB,UCD, UCSC, UCI
Waiting: UCSD, UCB, UCLA, UCSB,UCD, UCSC, UCI
I feel very nervous now because I have not received any offer yet. Do you guys think I can be admitted by UCSD? I am so nervous!!!
@Unhappyshake do you mean that you haven’t done linear algebra yet but will next quarter, or you won’t complete linear algebra at all by transfer time?
@bomnd I won’t complete linear algebra, because my college is semester system, so I don’t think I still have time to complete linear algebra.
As you already might know, CS is the most competitive STEM major… But, UCSD is flexible about missing pre-reqs. One of my friends who got accepted to UCSD last year withdrew his major pre-req and still got accepted to UCSD.
Yes, UCSD is very flexible/lenient on missing prereqs. They care more about the holistic view of whether an applicant fit or not along with your GPA and essays.
Based on threads in the past few years, I see students were accepted into Business/Econ major missing Calculus 2.
I am applying to UCSD’s International Business from a top 50 private university, and I am missing Calculus 2 and the second English class. But I think I still have a decent chance of getting in with my GPA and essays.
For UCLA and UCB, however, my chances are very slim. Also, UCI is my safety school. My current institution is better than UCI so I won’t even stress upon getting in.
Does anyone know the chances of a 3.3 getting into the psych major from a CSU… I’m super nervous but I’ve wanted to go to this school for a while .
@brebre123 Here are the stats from last year http://www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof18_mjr.htm & for Cal States http://www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof18.htm
@90smix I think you posted stats from UCLA, not UCSD
@ilovemydog2019 OOPS LOL. I thought we were on UCLA! anyways @brebre123 here is UCSD stats sorry about that xD https://universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
@sagaciousforever arent the UCs super strict about needing the bare minimum of 2 eng classes and 1 math class??? ive never heard of someone missing the English pre-reqs and still get in.
@ashyashy I haven’t heard of anyone making that happen. I find it some what odd as to how many English classes the UC’s want… yet don’t require a public speaking class like the State schools. I believe most if not all the colleges (at UCSD) require a 3rd upper division English class after transfer as well unfortunately.
@ashyashy , @sagaciousforever has been told numerous times that missing English is a non-negotiable non-admit but he’s in his own world, ?.
@Ohm888 I have always assumed that pretty much most if not all of IGETC is required to be competitive for transfer. So when I have read many times over the past years forums that some IGETC classes/pre reqs have some leniency as to their prior completion … why do you say that 2 English classes are non-negotiable? I’m not arguing other wise just curios as to why it would be? Also by saying the 2nd English is non-negotiable that means there might be classes that are negotiable does it not? I’m just curious, thats all.
