UCSD Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

^ Anyone know how they decide the decisions? I know it’s a holistic process, but how do they choose?

I actually had a few appointments with one of the transfer admissions reviewers before and during the application process to ensure I wasn’t wasting my time applying to UCSD.

Idk why they told me this info, maybe they just really liked me as an applicant (or maybe they didn’t like me and wanted to give me bad advice to make sure I got rejected lmao) but when I asked how much time should I focus on EC’s and essays they literally told me not to bother and to just focus on my gpa and major requirements; that UCSD barely even read the essays (this is only for transfer students, not freshmen.) They also told me that if your major isn’t impacted, it’s pretty much based on if your gpa is pretty good and if you’ve taken the screened courses in order to get in. If so, you’re probably getting in.
According to them, it’s pretty much all numbers and stats and not holistic AT ALL for transfer students at UCSD. I was told unless there’s a special circumstance or something REALLY out there (you survived cancer, you’re published in a scientific journal, etc) your EC’s and essays do not matter to them.

I still spent a lot of time on my essays and put in my ec’s, obviously not gonna go off on just one persons advice, just to be safe.

@sleepypolarbear Ugh. That is not reassuring in the least…

@kristinpete oh yeah, I’m banking on a holistic review to get an acceptance from any school since my stats aren’t the best, but my essays and ec’s sure are great

other schools probably take a more holistic approach and thats also the advice of just one person at admissions so who really knows for sure

@sleepypolarbear I too met with one of the representatives and they gave me the exact same answer. They don’t really care about anything but numbers and grades.

I met with a rep back in September and asked about low impacted majors and if there is any chance of getting in and i was told as long as all required classes are taken with a good gpa, there could be a chance. But I dont hope too much since its a very sought after school and most applicaticants are competitive…i wish the school paid more attention to the essays.

@TatianaF the rep at my school told me it’s not a bad idea if you pick a Major that’s somewhat similar to your preferred one and to just switch after getting admitted. Obviously you can’t do this for impacted majors but since mine might become impacted soon I chose an easy major to get into as my second choice. UCSD is my dream and I pray I get in ?

@sleepypolarbear i wish you luck! Hopefully we all hear good news next month. Crossing fingers ?

@TatianaF I wonder then why they take so long to get through the applications…Other UCs do consider the essays and release much sooner. This might mean that UCSD has the decisions finished and is just sitting on them so as to mimic the timing of prestigious schools…

If they are truly only considering the numbers, they could do everything almost instantly without much need for admissions staff.

@kristinpete i have thought about that too. Why make the hassel of having us write those essays if only they are disregarded. I also wonder if the ranking of the colleges have anything to do with the admission process?? The wait is making us all doubt and second guess ourselves honestly ?.

Thank you all for the info

@sleepypolarbear I was afraid of that, even though I kind of knew that when writing the essays I was/am still hopeful that I stand out.

maybe we can ask that actress lady to pitch in 500k each for us to get accepted?

@Scoobybrew LMAO

“I watched a ton of full house as a kid you OWE ME”

I went to middle school with one io the kids named. ?

…did anyone else just now get an email to apply for the Annual Overnight Program? It literally says in the email “Welcome Future Triton”. And it ends with “We look forward to welcoming you to our campus!”

Is this likely an accidental email intended for freshmen? I think I read in last year’s thread some transfers received an invitation for something but weren’t able to RSVP.

@kristinpete Yep just got it and tried to RSVP to no luck.

@kristinpete did those from last year’s thread who got that email eventually get admitted?

@Joseph590 Did you try to RSVP to Triton day or did you try to APPLY for the overnight program? The triton day link is only for freshmen students…

In the email it says to use your UC application id but that’s obviously not working. I tried RSVPing for triton day and didn’t get an error message or anything…not sure what happened.
