Well I am gonna email anyway and tell them if I can’t study CS then I just can’t attend. Probably not gonna change much but I will at least try bc UCSD is the dream lottery sounds too risky so might go to UCI
@Dg3001 Wow! I almost never hear about people interested in genetic counseling and its a huge coincidence we’re deciding between the same schools and both live near SB

@Millie100 haha yeah. I usually have to explain to people what a genetic counselor is lmao.
@jenner99 congrats! Getting in from a 4 year is a great accomplishment!
@kristinpete thanks! I really had a great round being accepted to all the UC’s I applied. I don’t know what they like about me, but I haven’t even started my physics series yet. Im gonna be a bruin or anteater… ?XD Yes, I’m gonna withdraw from other colleges, so it will give a chance to another student…
Anyways, I hope you will get in! Best of Luck!
WAITLIST QUESTION:
I’m in CSE/CS and got waitlisted. I was wailisted then admitted last year as well and know basically everyone in the CS waitlist got in last year. Does anyone know what might be the situation this year? based on previous years, bc idk if the majority wait-list acceptance was a one time trend only or if it happens often at UCSD
Thank you <33 Congrats everyone <333

Does anyone know how strict UCSD is on required major preparation classes? I let them know I wasn’t going to be able to take the class, but now they’re saying I have to complete all required major preparation classes in order to maintain conditional admission. I’m not sure if they didn’t get the update that I wasn’t able to take the class in spring quarter.
@joejoejoelit it seems they’re not that strict actually, they probably require certain courses over others
ACCEPTED!
Cognitive Science Major (Marshall)
Gpa: 3.73
Out of State 4 Year
Denied: UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCSB
Accepted: UCSD
I got accepted with my alternative major at Sixth College - my top choice was Computer Science (B.A). May I ask if I could change my major to CS once I get enrolled there since mine sounds like an impacted major
Admitted!

UC GPA: 3.33

EC’s: A few jobs when I wasn’t in school, Childcare, Foster Care Visitation monitor

Essays: I focused on my major and how I applied what I learned in the classroom and my language abilities to the real world. I also wrote about why I left UC Davis and how being a non-traditional student gave me a different perspective
Accepted to: UCSB (tag), UCI, UCLA, UCSD
Rejected: UCB (didn’t complete igetc or breadth so automatically denied)
I have a lower GPA because I previously attended UC Davis during the 2011-2012 school year where I withdrew from with a 2.52. However, I received straight A’s at Santa Monica College (2017-2019) which bumped it up to a 3.3. I really made an effort to focus on English courses because I couldn’t go over a certain amount of units due to having UC units from Davis.
I’m 25 and I hope this serves as an example to future non-traditional students who will be applying that it is possible to transfer with a lower GPA. Seems like the UC’s really place more emphasis on your most recent grades especially if you have had gaps between the times you attended school. A tip I’d like to pass along is to look at the average GPA’s per major and see if there are majors that are less impacted or have a higher admit rate. For example, at UCLA English is impacted but American Literature and Comparative Literature have better admit rates. Similar majors if you’re willing to major in something else. Also, the major requirements are similar.
I will be declining their offer because I already SIR’d to UCLA. I hope this opens up a spot for those who are waitlisted or appealing
