UCSD Jacobs Scholarship vs. Princeton

hey there! i was recently admitted to both ucsd with a jacobs scholarship (full ride + research benefits) and princeton. my intended major is chemical engineering, though i would be interested in nanoengineering if i went to ucsd. for my family, money is not a huge issue, so the main reason i would go to ucsd would be for the benefits (priority registration, extra research with professors). if you guys have any advice or know anything either about ucsd or princeton academics, engineering, or social life, please respond!

p.s. this is my first CC post!

Picking UCSD for extra research in engineering over Princeton…

I could be wrong but I would suspect such research opportunities are practically the norm at Princeton. If money is nonissue… I’d have a darn hard time turning down Princeton’s engineering program for anything short of Stanford/MIT…

UCSD’s cool and all but come on, its Princeton!!

I’m faced with a similar choice as well (Jacobs vs. top schools) as a bioengineering major. I’m most likely going to take the Jacobs scholarship. I’ve heard from others that the industry contacts you make through the program are almost impossible to beat and the internship opportunities are truly amazing. And for me, even though money isn’t a huge deal, a 230k difference is hard to ignore.

Princeton, no brainer. You won’t have ANY problems getting into classes or research, and it’ll easily get you into better grad schools, assuming that’s your goal.

And you’ll have smaller classes at Princeton with more time with professors who in turn will be more suited to write better letters of recs for you if you chooose to go to grad school. The weather though may not be as good but the schoool is smaller and has a better loooking campus and all that nice stuff.

UCSD is great and all…

But you should really go to Princeton if it’s down to those choices.

thanks for the advice guys! yeah you guys confirmed my suspicions that the extra benefits offered from the scholarship don’t really outweigh princeton’s great academics. i’m visiting uscd this weekend just to make sure, so i’ll report back on that.

any more info on academics or social life in either uscd or princeton? it’d be greatly appreciated!

A close family friend is a senior at Princeton this year. He has had the time of his life at P. He plays on the volleyball team, sings in an A Capella group. does charity work, belongs to an eating club…He has enjoyed his time immensely there and has made unbelievable contacts.
