I just got accepted to both of these. I plan on majoring in aerospace and i have no idea which one to go to. I mean, i know UCSD is better academically compared to UCI but i dont really like the campus at UCSD. I prefer the environment at UCI.

Can someone pleaase help me?? Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated...

I’d normally say go to UCSD because its engineering is somewhat better than UCI at this point in time, but if you strongly feel that UCI would make you happier, then I think you wouldn’t be too wrong to choose UCI. After all, you are going to be spending 4 or so years at one of these schools, so my opinion is that you should go with what you think will give you the least regrets. I know this sounds like obvious advice but it doesn’t hurt to see someone else offer it to you.

I’m in a similar situation myself actually. Although I haven’t visited either campus yet lol But I was leaning toward UCI prior to being admitted to UCSD (just in case I was) because it seems like UCI was so much more fun. But once I was accepted, I started shifting toward UCSD because it is actually closing in on UCLA in a number of fields, just the name isn’t as well known yet. And I know a lot that may likely attend UCSD from my school too.

It’ll come down to the visits to the campuses and the atmospheres though. I’d say take some more time deciding and contemplating what really would make you feel happy, don’t decide yet since the SIRs aren’t due yet.

Thanks, Yeah, i plan to visit both campuses soon. Hopefully, it’ll help me decide but asof right now, I’m leaning more towards UCI. I feel that I’d be making a stupid decision by going to UCI though just because UCSD is better academically compared to UCSD…

Go to the place you see yourself being the most comfortable and happy at. You’ll PRETTY MUCH be getting the same education at both, but if you see yourself at UCI go to UCI.

The difference in quality between UCI and UCSD is negligible. Go wherever you want and don’t think twice about layman prestige. Just make the best of your college experience.

“The difference in quality between UCI and UCSD is negligible”
-True for some areas/ majors, but not always…

Im ALSO in a dilemma between UCI and UCSD. The main reason why Im considering UCI is because I live in Irvine, so going to UCI will be MUCH easier on my family financially. At the end of the day, you will be the one attending college, so if you really like UCI, go for it. (UCI is still a very good school)

I have the same dilemma, except I’m going for Biology. I haven’t actually visited either campus, but the general consensus is that UCI’s atmosphere is better. Also, I have heard great things about its CHP program. That being said, Muir is supposed to be one of the more social colleges. And, as someone already pointed out, SD is supposedly rising in the ranks.

wow i’ve been debating this too… i live in Irvine but I want to go to UCSD because it is farther from home and the bubble XD (i guess it’s not financially wise =))

I would make a pro/con list =D after visiting the campuses?

Based on my personal experience, when I was deciding which school I was going to attend, I went to visit both campuses. I didn’t like UC Irvine because the campus is really small, it’s like 1/2 the size of UCSD and the city of Irvine was really boring to me. I then compared that visit to UCSD and I knew I was going to UCSD. Just because I found about everything it offered and I just liked the campus, the location and the climate and the people. Also, you got into Muir so that’s a plus :D

Biology at UCSD is a lot better than it is at a UCI (or any other UC campus I’m pretty sure haha).

To fbendana,

Do you even know how the environment or campus is at both schools? I would strongly suggest you visit both to get a real feel.

As for academics, aerospace engineering at UCSD is ranked 22nd in the nation vs 27th at UCI. As for the engineering schools in general at both, UCSD is 9th, and UCI is 35th.
