UCSD or IN for sociology

Hi everyone! I am facing a big problem now… There is one week left for me to put deposit down but I am still struggling to IN has a better sociology department and cheaper than UCSD. But UCSD in general is a away better school. I am not a huge fan for football and I love the weather in San Diego. But a strong sociology department means a lot to me.

Which school do you think I should choose? And can anyone tell me something about sociology department in UCSD?

Thanks a lot.

By IN do you mean Indiana-Bloomington?

UCSD has a fairly solid sociology program. If you prefer the environment here, you’re not losing anything major. There are tons of research opportunities in your field.

IU has a good rep in the Midwest, at least. They are known for excellent humanities and social sciences and are solid elsewhere. (IU lacks Engineering – that’s Purdue’s mission in Indiana).

And of course, they usually have a pretty decent basketball team. I have never been there, but it looks like a pretty campus.

@DoctorP Yes, IU-Bloomington.

@prezbucky thanks a lot. I am pretty sure that I will choose IU at this point. I’m on the waitlist of U of Wisconsin Madison. So I want to make a final decision later. But I definitely will put my deposit down for IU at this point. Thanks again.

Sure thing.

UW-Madison is my alma mater and I almost mentioned it because it’s top-5 in Sociology (and top-notch in many other fields), but I held off. Since you have mentioned it: good luck getting in off the wait list! Whether you choose IU or UW (or UCSD, for that matter), you’re in great shape.
