Perhaps I was a bit harsh, but you have to realize that GPA is the most important factor for the UCs. UCI’s average capped UC GPA is 4.05. Your GPA is no where near UCI’s average. Although a 3.50 unweighted GPA is not a crap GPA for most universities, the UCs are in the top 50 national universities. For the UCs, your GPA simply is not good enough. Your leadership positions will help, but the UCs are still reaches for you. My own rejections has very little to do with my predictions for you. I use scatterplots to form my predictions.

Not on everybody’s posts. In some threads, my predictions are actually nicer than the majority’s.

Okay…my weighted gpa is closer to the average and for schools like UCI and UCSD my SAT/ACT are actually around or above average. I’m actually expecting a 32+ ACT in December. Considering good essays and good leadership, I don’t understand how you could call all of my schools “reaches”. @Mangiafuoco

Also, my capped GPA is 3.9… So it really isn’t “no where near” lolol @Mangiafuoco

@Pbandjeff
Did you calculate it with 8 weighted semesters maximum? You have to realize that a 0.15 difference is huge. It is the difference between a mid-tier UC (about 4.05) and a high-tier UC (about 4.20).

Add some CSU safeties. Don’t be surprised if you are rejected by the UC’s; they are into numbers: GPA first and SAT/ACT scores.

We had a bunch of our students, with really good scores and GPA’s rejected by all of their UC choices. They and their parents came to our college counselors, after decisions were in, and were angry that they didn’t get into any UC’s of their choice but their ELC got them into Merced. They were too arrogant to apply to CSU’s and didn’t, so a number of the students did gap years. It is a numbers game because there just aren’t enough spaces available at the UC’s and CSU’s.

Hey! I’m applying to a lot of the same schools as you are doing, and I’m in SoCal, as well!

I think you have a solid chance at UCSC, Pepperdine, and Chapman. USC, UCLA, NYU, and UCSD might be a bit tougher, but if you apply ED for NYU, then you would greatly increase your chances (like you didn’t know. haha). UCD, UCI, and UCSB seem like really good targets. However, since you expect to get a 33 or so, your chance of acceptance would be much, much higher.

Chance me back, please?

UCSD - fair chance
UCLA - I think they’re very stats oriented, reach
NYU - they’re very holistic I think, so good chance
UCI - Good Chance :)

you have outstanding EC’s!!!

Thanks for the chances guys!

Hey, just saw that you chanced me, so sorry for the late chance!

I would have to say that your SATs are okay for ucsd and uci, but I would look into at least ucsc and ucr, just to be on the safe side. You’ll probably want a couple safeties anyway.
Apart from that, your chances at ucla are slim unless you have a killer essay and the adcom is feeling really good when he/she reads your application. Ucsd and uci are much more realistic options. Nyu has terrible financial aid and why would you want to give up California weather when UC schools are are just as good if not better? :)

As of now NYU, USC, and maybe UCLA are reaches.
UCSD is a low reach
UCI is a match

Good luck!
