ucsd vs santa clara

im out of state, so no offense to the californians, id rather go to school with a little more diversity (as per santa clara) but i like the larger school atmosphere of ucsd

any thoughts?

i also got into boston college but im thinking i belong in california so if anyone has any opinions that would be greatly appreciated

I live like 20 minutes from Santa Clara, and can't honestly see why you would want to go there unless you are local. It is a very small school, which would not appeal to me. It is supposed to be mainly white, so I do not know where you are coming from saying it is diverse. The location of the school is nothing special. Yes, it is in a big city, but directly around campus where you will be spending almost all you time there is not much to do.

Presonally I think San Diego/La Jolla has more to offer than San Jose/Santa Clara.

No offense taken do to being out of state, you just lucked out being born in the best state.

I live 10 minutes away from Santa Clara University. I'm not sure if you've visited the campus before, but let me tell you this. The location of this schools sucks really bad. It is basically located in some random lower-middle class old looking residential neighborhood. Its immediate surroundings blows as well. There's absolutely nothing surrounding the campus.

Don't get me wrong, Santa Clara County and most of the South Bay aka Silicon Valley is extremely nice, and the region is very wealthy, it's just that this school is located in a really crummy area.

Even locally (as in Bay Area), the perception of this school is considered average or ok at best.

yeah i live 10 minutes away from SCU too haha, it's not bad by any means (San Jose is a nice area), but like others have said the location kinda sucks, and there are a lot of rich snobby people that go there (according to my cousin that goes there). In addition, I really don't think there's much appeal to SCU compared to UCSD. Actually, I feel UCSD's more diverse than SCU..but i don't know the stats to back that up. but if you're doing business-related stuff SCU is pretty good at it but that would be the only case i would choose SCU, but that's just me.

well....i think its depends on what major u intend to major?
if its business....Santa Clara would be a better place to go,
but if science, or bio....absolutely....go to UCSD!

UCSD is not that diverse... ~40%white, 40%asian, 20%other (mostly hispanic)

But from the sound of it, its more diverse than SCU.

And although UCSD is in a very nice area (La Jolla is, quite frankly, gorgeous), it is fairly boring. Not much to do but the beach.

Neither of them is very diverse, here are the stats from college board:
SCU <a href="http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?match=true&collegeId=3340&type=qfs&word=santa%20clara%5B/url%5D">http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?match=true&collegeId=3340&type=qfs&word=santa%20clara</a>
UCSD
<a href="http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=991%5B/url%5D">http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=991</a>
personally i prefer the asian majority
My vote is for UCSD

As a current UCSD student trying to get into SCU, I would say that your preference for a larger school should send you straight to SD. But in reality, it really depends on your major / career goals. If you're looking into science / medicine / pharmaceuticals and you like the big-time competitive campus, then San Diego is the place to be.

There's a lot of recruitment from SCU for business and very little recruitment from the big 4 at UCSD.

SD is in a beautiful location, but it is really boring unless you bring a car and venture out of the area. Santa Clara seems just as quiet, but personally, I think that the Bay Area has a lot more to offer than San Diego.
