Im planning on taking general chemistry over the summer.
I was hoping to take it at UC berkeley but i don't know if it will work with transferable courses because cal has the semester system.
i go to ucsd. and I can take summer courses here. but I was just wondering how hard general chemistry is over the summer at both ucsd and cal so I can decide where to go.
has anyone from ucsd taken summer at Cal?
any advice will be much appreciated.

my HS classmate was a chem major at cal; their textbook was the one UCSD was using for the honors-level classes. even if you pass a semester at cal, you’ll only get transfer credit for the first quarter equivalent of the class. it’s a lot easier to take it at UCSD, since your future chem professors are most familiar with what was and wasn’t covered at their home campus.

(example: my 140B class protested a quiz question because grignard reagents were never covered in prof X’s 140A class, so the question was tossed from the quiz. if you said something like “well, i never covered it at my class in berkeley,” it’d be tough luck for you)

Darn but I really want to spend my summer at Cal.
any pros to taking one session= one quater’s worth at Cal?
I need to make a decision.

the only pro i can think of: when you come back, you’ll be a half-quarter ahead of your classmates. but you’ll have paid extra tuition to repeat the material again at ucsd.
