UCSD vs UCI (computer science)

I got accepted to both UCSD (Sixth College) and UC Irvine for computer science. I can't really make up my mind as to which college i plan on choosing. I heard very good things about UC Irvine's school of computer science, but haven't heard much about UCSD. Can someone please give me background information about computer science at UCSD. Thanks!

i visited sd and talkd to a CS advisor. It’s a great program at SD. job opportunities are great, and research is awesome. it definitely is a great program but its also very difficult. the average gpa last year was 3.0 for CS undergrads. im having the same problem as u. rather irvine, for me its santa clara university v ucsd

Where would you rather live for 4 years, Irvine or San Diego? What environment do you prefer? go there.

I had the same problem as you too: UCI vs UCSD for comp sci. Then I visited sd and the weather was great and everything looked really nice in my opinion. I’ll admit that I was also looking for rankings and ucsd’s comp sci rank is much better than uci’s. I also like sd’s unique 6 college system. A prestigious college such as ucsd would obviously be relatively competitive, so I know I need to work hard…but yea…I know it sounds general. I am surprised you don’t hear about ucsd’s prestige, because I sure did.

I’m a computer engineering student at UCSD (freshman) through the CS dept. For the first two years, my classes are exactly the same as the CS majors and I have the same advisors so hopefully I can help you out.

UCSD has a great CS program. Honestly, even within UCSD, I would say that the resources and advising available to the students makes it one of the better programs in the school. There are ALWAYS places to go to and people to talk to when you are confused, and the advisors are incredible. I personally would choose UCSD over UCI anyday…which is what I did last year.

Plus, UCSD is in La Jolla and right by San Diego, which is amazing. Its a better environment in my opinion.

i ended up choosing ucsd for CS!

congrats, and best of luck with everything  welcome to SD.

thanks man. @l00kitzjeff, what did u end up choosing?
