Hi all! I was wondering if I could get some opinions on my current situation. I’ve been admitted to UMich (also admitted to LSA Honors College) and UIUC for CS, but I didn’t get CS for UCSD (my alt. major is Cognitive Science)
However, I really love UCSD as a school and think it’s an amazing environment (and I’m also in-state). Is it worth the risk to try to transfer into the CS major? I’m in Warren if that matters!
PS I’m also not the biggest fan of how isolated UIUC is (I visited last summer) and I’ve never visited UMich (but I’m TERRIBLE with the cold)
There is a big difference between Cognitive Science & Computer Science. CS will be very competitive. Transferring might be very very hard. There will probably be a horde of people trying to do the same.
Cant comment on the social environment of the other 2 colleges. I know very little about that except that they are both academically highly regarded especially UIUC for Engineering disciplines and Michigan overall.
Weatherwise, they are very cold during the winter, Michigan will be worse. Not Buffalo cold but cold enough. If you think you cant handle the snow and below freezing temps - you will not be happy during the winters - although that does help you study more since there is nothing to do outside
@tigerkrzy if you had gotten into UCSD CS, this would pretty much be a no brainer. I’d still vote UCSD, depending on how ok you are with studying Math-CS or CogSci, since CS is pretty hard to get into (not impossible, several people I know have succeeded). If you like the football-free SoCal UCSD environment that much more then I’d say to go for it
