UCSD vs USC

I am a third year student at PCC trying to do mechanical engineering. Recently, I got accepted to UCSD, but for my backup major of applied math/science because I have not completed all of my course plan yet. I talked to someone at UCSD yesterday and they said I could choose to specialize in mechanics/engineering with that major over there.

My other option is USC. With spring and summer classes at PCC, I am on track to finish almost all of the classes I need for mechanical engineering. I think I have a reasonable chance of getting in.

The question I have is whether or not math/applied science is a good route to go for engineering vs doing directly mechanical engineering. My problem is that UCSD's SIR date is when USC is supposed to release decisions.

I was originally planning on going to USC if I get in, but this certainly makes life more complicated.

UCSD is better if USC doesn’t offer more than 25k in financial aid. In the mean time, submit an SIR to UCSD and wait for USC. If you get USC, withdraw your SIR at UCSD but you will lose $100.

Please be safe and submit a SIR to UCSD. You can go to USC even if you SIR UCSD, you just lose the 100$ fee.

thanks guys.

I’m going to submit my SIR for UCSD and wait and see what happens with USC. That will buy me more time to make a decision and compare financial aid.
