UCSD Waitlist Fall 2019 Transfer

Hello everyone! It looks like there isn’t a waitlist thread for Fall 2019 transfers yet!

Feel free to post stats, ask questions, receive emotional support etc. We are in it for the long run!

Waitlisted

Major: CogSci
Gpa: 3.82 (1 D in Calc 2 which hurt me a lot)
Major prep: Done except Linear algebra
IGETC: Done
International student

CogSci had 42% yield rate last year. I think it is relatively low?. I am going to SIR to UCI. I hope I can get a spot

Major: CS
GPA: 3.7
Major prep: done
in-state UC student

Hey guys, been lurking on CC for a couple years now but only now decided to join. Hoping I can help next year applicants by posting my stats.

CCC Transfer
GPA: 3.5
Major: Computer Science
Major GPA: 3.6
Major Prereqs: Calc 1 - 3, Linear Algebra and Physics 1 & 2. Currently taking Discrete Math. Also finished 2 programming courses but only 1 articulates directly
IGETC: Done

Gonna be hard to wait even longer for UCSD, but I’m lucky enough to be already admitted to UCI with a scholarship. Good luck to everyone!

Dang are we all gonna deposit to Irvine during this wait? This should be a club.

Danggggg, congrats dude.
Major: CS
GPA: 3.85
Waitlisted UCSD
I got rejected from UCI and i dont even know what the reason was
Also CS had like 50% yield rate last year. What does that even mean for our waitlist guys?

major: cs
gpa: 3.8
didnt have the cs classes for major pre-reqs areticulate to school’s

Did you tag UCI? From what I can tell a lot of people (myself included) tagged UCI for CS this year, so many that they probably ran out of space for normal applicants which is why people with high GPAs are getting rejected. I’d assume that’s why they’re ending tag for ICS majors from now on

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking around CC for a little while too and just decided to make an account.

CCC Transfer
Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.22 (Cs from my first year really put a dent in my GPA. I’m so grateful to not be denied.)
Major Prep: Done
IGETC: Will be completed Spring 2019

I am also waitlisted at UCI. Best of luck everybody!

^^In a very similar situation

-Psych major from CCC
-3.3 something GPA
Hopefully my spring quarter grades won’t factor in because I’m taking calc, chem, and java right now.
-Accepted to SB, Davis, SC, and Riverside but really hoping to get off the SD waitlist

Major: Political Science-International Relations Alternate: Study of Religion

Accepted: CSULB, CSUSM, CSUM, UCR (all for International Politics)
Waitlisted: UCSB (pre-political science), UCSD (PoliSci-Int Affairs)
Rejected: UCB (sociology), UCLA (philosophy), SDSU (study of religion)

UC CUM GPA: 3.13 (Got an F last quarter when I was taking courses at 2 different CC’s and 1 university lol…luckily the class isn’t major prep and I already have more than enough credits). I’m originally from Wisconsin and moved to San Diego and started school immediately after I got out of the Marines. I really struggled acclimating to school again, especially not having family or friends (and living on my own) when I first moved here. Now I’m just starting to make a solid group of friends and I really would love to stay in SD! Even if Stanford was like, " here’s a 100k scholarship to our school", I’d be like “nopeee”. I’ve done quite a bit of traveling, and I can definitely say that having good connections is THE way to thrive.

IGETC: Done (I have 66 transferrable credits as of Fall 2018)-taking 14 credits this Spring and only 3 of those are part of major prep for UCSD, while the others were for fun or to cover requirements at CSU.

Major Prep: 1 IP this Spring(Contemporary International Politics) which I will get at LEAST a B in. Poli 102 and 103 I completed back to back in the summer of 2018 (which I think is saying something). Poli 30 I will take at UCSD and according to Assist, " PS 30 is not included in the introductory sequence-NO COURSE ARTICULATED Course must be taken at UC San Diego." In a nutshell, I have taken or am currently completing every political science course that any CCC offers.

I have been attending a San Diego CC year round (Winter-Spring-Fall-Summer) for two years.

Volunteer: Just a one time event helping military families and their kiddos (it’s the only volunteer work I have verification of).

EC: Marine Corps Veteran and lived/worked as a Network/Windows Server Administrator in 6 Asian countries for two years. Lots of leadership serving as a Sergeant on active duty. Wrestling and Coaching, involved in intervarsity campus ministry, involved in “Ask an Atheist” in Balboa Park San Diego, Amateur mountain climber ( I climbed Fuji when I was in the Marines haha).

Awards: Team Awards from wrestling, medals from the military for helping with Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, work in South Korea etc., and High Honors in High School- I said, " The smile that was on my mom’s face when I told her I’d be graduating at the top of my class is more than enough reason to add this award to the list!" :stuck_out_tongue:

Work experience- Military, uber/lyft, poultry handler on an organic farm, sales rep/ delivery driver at an industrial distributor.

Essays- Part of me wishes I wouldn’t of written these the night of the deadline haha…in hindsight though, my only regret is that the grammatical errors portray lack of preparation (but that’s been my life as a Marine though, having to adapt, even without “proper” preparation). Other than that I think they show the true me, raw and unfiltered. I described my love for dancing, finding and encouraging leadership in all peoples, even in the “outcasts” of society, the detriment of instant gratification (particularly sexual), especially on the apps of our generation…i.e. Tinder, Bumble, etc… On the required PIQ (prep for major), I talked about the power of love (unorthodox, I know) and how completing a degree in order to help others (shared satisfaction), is much much more fulfilling then to pursue a degree to achieve personal/private satisfaction.

USODE ethnicity (does this really have an impact? LOL…maybe idk): African American or Black, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, White…I really am all these things haha

@RyanLam Hey Ryan, the yield rate shows the percentage of admitted students who decided to enroll. So if the yield rate is 50% and 100 student were admitted for CS, then that means 50 of those admitted students ultimately enrolled. I’m not positive but I believe that most majors will admit more students then they have seats for…so with that said, the lower the yield, the better chance it seems you’ll have for being taken off the waitlist.

For those of us that get off the waitlist and ultimately enroll, I think we are going to do great at UCSD, regardless of current GPAs/ credentials. If you can persevere through these next couple months of additional waiting, still do well in your major prep and IGETC, and STILL decide to go to UCSD (even if it means last second planning)…well, then you definitely deserve to go!

does anyone know how waitlist work, is it a lottery or by some sort of priority

CCC transfer
Human Biology
GPA: 3.27 (3.4 after winter quarter)
Accepted: UCSB, UCSC, UCD, UCR, UCM, Cal SLO, Sac, SF
Waitlisted: UCI, UCSD
Rejected: SDSU

It looks like last year people started hearing back within the first week of June.

I think I saw in last years thread that some people even heard back around May 10th but someone should double check me on that

i didnt tag to any UC unfortunately because my counselor told me i had to go to that school when i Tagged. I was so innocent and believed her.

hi bro,
So what do you think about 50% yield rate? is that high or low ? what are our chances to get into CS?
Thanks so much bro

@queen_ofthenorth I’ll check, but it seems most likely that decisions will come out post June 1st (as the SIR deadline for CSU is May 1st and the SIR for UC is June 1st). I imagine it would be hard to look at the waitlist, until all regularly admitted students have had time to respond…could be wrong though. I hope some of us find out around May 10th, LOL! It would be nice to plan for housing and what not.
