UCSD Waitlist Fall 2019 Transfer

@sdsuucsd I apprectiate the encouragement, thanks! Someone mentioned before that we are all great candidates if we made it to the waitlist in the first place and I’m inclined to agree. I guess I’m lucky in the sense that I have no stressful decision to make but Im jealous of everyone with back up schools. I would gladly trade my gpa for a guaranteed transfer in the fall haha.

Every year for the last few years, they’ve let people off the waitlist in May and it’s usually at the end of the week… It has to be today…

If this is helpful info for anyone, UCSD had 19,247 transfer applicants this year as compared to last year (18,866). I’ve heard that they accepted to capacity last year, leaving more room for the waitlisted, but that’s just hearsay.

I have a feeling we might hear something today? if we don’t hear anything within the next hour I will be even more shocked

@CSDegreePlease Risky not having a backup, but I’m sure you’ll get in  Best of luck to you!!

if you look at previous years waitlist forums, you’ll see sometimes drops would occur at 10 even 11pm which is hella weird but keep in mind that’s possible

guess nothing today  time to sir to irvine

@chloesalem You’re lucky you got Irvine. It’s debatably just as good. You’re good even if you don’t get into UCSD.

Hey guys don’t fret! I think June 1st will be a good date to look forward to as the UC SIR’s are due at that time! I don’t know how they were able to release early last year but June 1st seems more logical. Do something fun in the mean time

I’ve glanced at threads back to 2013 and every year since then, people made it off the waitlist in May…

Do yall think I should accept my Davis option now or wait until Wednesday or Thursday? Btw I keep reading about how depressed a lot of UCSD students are. If you have another option at hand, you might be making the right choice for your overall wellness/happiness by taking that route. I know it’s easy to get fixated on one school but there are some pretty cool other campuses. I’m really drawn to living in San Diego, but I don’t want to be isolated and sad.

@queen_ofthenorth There’s no reason to be depressed. You’re surrounded by other students and it’s only up to you whether or not you to choose to interact and get involved. I guarantee that not 100% of students there are antisocial. I know fairly social people that are going there this fall and know people that transferred in last year who say that overall, it’s a great experience.

@kristinpete where some of them later than the 24th?

@chloesalem Yes, but I don’t remember which year…it might have been 2013 - quite a while ago. Several people found out on the 29th or so.

In more recent years, people have found out sooner in May.

I’m assuming that this year, they accepted far more than capacity… so I’m hoping a significant number decline their UCSD offer in favor of UCLA, UCB and UCI.

I definitely don’t think that every single person is depressed. I’ve spoken to people that have made the best of their experience and are glad they chose UCSD. Just because a lot of people have a bad experience, doesn’t mean you will. San Diego is still nonetheless probably my top pick, but I am a little worried about the very negative things I hear. I think it’s important to listen and not just dismiss people’s words and feelings because it bums you out.

It is a fact that a lot of people are unhappy, and that’s something I personally need to account for. I don’t agree that there is no reason to be depressed otherwise the general dissatisfaction would be a lot lower. People don’t want to be depressed, it just happens. I don’t want to blame people who are depressed and say its their fault because they didn’t try; a lot of them probably do. I’m sure some people make an effort to join clubs, get involved, socialize, and just have a hard time. The competitive, cut throat environment doesn’t help.

It surprised me to find out about how many students feel this way, because San Diego itself is so beautiful and there’s so much to do in the area. I feel like a lot of people just don’t have the time to balance their academics and social life because they are competing against other very driven students. It’s a high-pressure environment, people struggle, and that’s just something to bear in mind. I still think people can be and are happy there, but it’s important to note that it seems students have a harder time creating that for themselves. Some campuses are better than others in that respect.

This is just one person’s opinion, but it seems to be something a lot of people relate with. Look at the comments.

@queen_ofthenorth I can’t quite agree…Sure, people don’t choose depression, but I wasn’t saying as such. I don’t believe a more significant percentage of the students are depressed than in other top colleges (UCB, UCLA, Stanford, NYU, etc etc). I’ve only heard complaints about the social life on campus which, as an older student, I don’t care much for anyway. Anyone that is concerned about the social life should know that they are surrounded by thousands of people and many opportunities. For that reason, I say that the experience is what a person makes it to be.

It is definitely a challenging school. I don’t see that as a reason to disregard it. Though, perhaps some could stand to ask themselves if they’re ready to make the commitment to the work it entails.

…but on another note, it sounds like you’re set on Davis!

The portal is “temporarily unavailable”. Think it means anything?

Edit: Nvm, its working again.

My portal was down too but now it’s back up no changes for me

I’m also one of the students in the waitlist. So far I haven’t heard anything yet. But I know some people were off from the waitlist on May 10th. I don’t know if its a bad news for us. Anyway, I can’t do anything with it maybe just wait.

@suki123 Oh really? Who got off the waitlist - people from your school?
