UCSD, Without TAG, GPA

Hi, I know for TAG 2014, it's 3.5, but what is the general GPA (avg I guess? for people who do not TAG)?

The average is 3.50

However 24% of transfer students last year were admitted with a 3.29 or less

I didn’t do TAG, got waitlisted as a 3.3 GPA. At the end, I got into the school.

No TAG,
Econ major,
got in with 3.34
what is your intended major and GPA?

Ok, my GPA is 3.45 right now and I am a Computer Science major. By the end of Fall it might be 3.5 or it will be 3.4 depending on my Summer GPA results right now and the upcoming Fall GPA.

You need a 3.5 by start of fall to TAG and maintain it through spring.

But with that GPA you should be admitted without a TAG

@Matt, start of Fall or end of Fall? On the website it says

You must be a California community college student. Do you meet the definition?
-you have been enrolled at one or more CCCs for at least 2 regular terms (excludes summer sessions);
-you have completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at a CCC;
-you are attending a CCC as your last college before UC San Diego admission (excludes summer sessions).
-You must be in good standing during your last regular term.
-You must earn a cumulative 3.5 minimum UC GPA earned by the end of Fall term 2013 and maintained through the end of Spring term 2014.
-Both of the UC English courses and the UC math course must be completed by the end of Fall 2013, prior to Fall 2014 admission.
International students, see additional details below.
-You must be applying for admission with junior standing:
60 UC-transferable semester units (or 90 UC-transferable quarter units) completed by Spring 2014

I think it’s the end of Fall right?

Yeah end of fall sorry lol

But remember the TAG guarantees admission to the campus NOT THE MAJOR so consider that too

@Matt

Yah, I know about that, but what exactly do you do on campus then if you don’t get into the major?

Uhm take general Ed classes or pick a non impacted major, I’m not too sure for SD but I know UCB,UCLA and UCSB for a lot of majors have premajors and if you get a 3.20 in the pre major classes then they’ll admit you to the full major status.

Oh, I see. I might TAG just to be safe, but I need a 3.5 first! (or maybe I should tag to UC Irvine TAG to be safer since I’m more sure that I will get a 3.4 at least (required for UCI TAG))

But I really want to go to UCSD!

Then TAG UCSD!

I’m at a 3.45 right now (and I am not sure if I am going to get a C or B in linear algebra or if I am going to get a B or an A in my last required english class) <— Summer courses just ended today.

I’m in your same boat. I really want to go to UCSD, but I’m not 100% sure I can maintain the 3.5. I have 3.48 right now, and I know I can get over a 3.5 by the end of fall, but I only have 1 class left to take in the Spring. If I don’t ace that 1 class, it’ll drop me under a 3.5. I’m thinking of tagging Irvine just to be safe, but I really want to go to UCSD.

Take your remaining class in spring with the Pass/No Pass grading option lol duhhhh

I’m not taking Calculus as pass/ no pass. It’s a prerequisite or my major at some schools. Duh :-)

Key words *AT SOME SCHOOLS lol

When I went to triton day or w/e (for transfers) they said the avg admitted gpa for f '13 was 3.65 so make sure you TAG. It’ll prob be even more competitive f '14

Yah, but for TAG, is No Pass/ Pass allowed on GE type classes? (not major prereqs)

2016Candles, You are very close. If it’s one class, can’t you be more confident and try to get an A in it (Well actually, what class is it?)

@bhav007 - The class is Calculus. I’m good in math, but banking everything on an A in calculus may not be my best move.

I expect all A’s this semester, then my spring grades are less crucial, but since we have to tag in a few weeks it’s all a guessing game. My gpa is only so low, because years ago I didn’t care about grades. Since I started back last year, I’ve gotten all As. I started with barely a 2.0 - I’ve been playing catch up for year.

I’ve already met my IGETC math requirement, but UCLA and UCSD require it for my major- Irvine doesn’t, nor do the Cal States or most privates.
