UD is my number one, but how on Earth can I pay???

Thank you, thank you ^-^ I definitely feel like this is the best decision I could make and I’ve never felt better!

Sooooo…how do I let UD down all nice and easy considering I’ve been bugging them for about 8 months? (Tweets, phone calls, interviewed, emails, etc…) They’re probably going to be like: “WHAT?!? After all of that, you are not coming???” I’m also registered for a local “Meet Fellow Accepted students” and “Destination Delaware Overnight.” I really don’t want to go to these events because I may start to feel bad again lol. I suppose i will just email them eventually.

Wow… to think I dedicated the past 8 months to being obsessed with UD… and only the last 3 days has it not been the only thing on my mind… I FEEL FREEEE!!! XD

Can a student graduate in 4 years without attending winter term?

A comment above says winter terms adds 5K in costs. Each year? Out of state? Including housing?

Zuzu: You are correct that you will have much wider choices for grad school because you will not be swamped by debt for your undergrad degree. Overall, I’d consider Rutgers main campus comparable in academics to UDel, on the average.

Hope this post helps some of you struggling with this decision. My D had her list of top 3 schools and has been accepted to all of them. Two are in-state approx 26K and the other is UD. UD and one other have been at the top of her list for the past 2 years. I discussed the cost difference with my D and compared it to a car…a toyota & a Lexus. While both have fantastic reputations, will get you where you are going, prepare you for the future - one has all the bells & whistles but costs $15K. Are you willing to pay $60K to have the extras. That is the question.

Both schools would help my D reach her goals, however, she would have a fuller, richer experience at UD - the whole package. Therefore, she decided to accept admission and we will work it out.

I know many people who think going to an OOS school is a waste of money - but all they are considering is the money. It is important to look at the entire picture. Some friends are in much better financial shape than we are and are not doing nearly as much for college. My personal opinion is it all boils down to priorities. If I sit and look at what we spend monthly, I can find some things we don’t need and could clearly live without or cut back on.

Make the decision that is right for you…after considering all things. Best of luck to everyone.

Can someone please explain winter term effects on costs?
Can a student graduate in 4 years without attending winter term? YES!

A comment above says winter terms adds 5K in costs. Each year? Out of state? Including housing? I THINK THAT IT COSTS AT LEAST $5K TO TAKE 2 WINTER CLASSES OOS.

Thanks, Helidad. I just went and confirmed your info, which is correct. For my daughter’s prospective major, she would not need to attend winter term in order to graduate in 4 years. It is about 3K for one course and 5 K for two courses out of state. It is another $1K plus for room and board for winter term, plus some fees.

Keep in mind those of you who opt to go to UDEL and finances maybe an issue, if the President holds to his word about not raising tuition/fees as in the past few years, it may be ok. If he doesn’t, and if the past raises are anything like the past few years, be prepared to add another 8-10K onto your final year. (Tuition/room/board)

ZuZuTweet: I wouldn’t worry about “letting UD down”. Why don’t you tell them that as much as you would love to attend UD, you don’t think you can afford it. Tell them that you have been crunching the numbers and unless they can match the tuition that you are would be paying at Rutgers, then you will be unable to attend. It never hurts to ask!
