<p>Accomplishments: Tom learned Arabic in Egypt and Morocco and spent a summer with Africa and Middle East Refugee Assistance in Cairo, providing legal aid for Somali refugees and getting Somali refugees enrolled in school; president of Alpha Lambda Delta, a 600-member service organization, planning a suicide-prevention 5K that raised $2,100 for suicide-prevention organizations; studied in South Africa and volunteered at an AIDS orphanage there; created student visit program for the office of admissions; peer mentor; teaching assistant for four courses, including two in Australia; Marshall Scholar, Truman Scholar and Boren (for foreign language study) Scholar.</p>

<p>According to DD, the best thing about Tom is that he's a real sweatheart. She has known him since her freshman year, and I've been hearing about what a nice guy he is since then. It's wonderful to see someone who deserves recognition on multiple levels actually receive it.</p>
