UDayton

Anyone have anything to share about UDayton?
I could find nothing on UD in the Alphabetical list of the College thread, or via a CC search. It is described in our older Fiske guide, and is not a small school. We have a friend whose child will be starting next year, and I was surprised that I have not seen it on CC before.

Very good school - 2nd largest Catholic school behind ND. S has several good pals attending there and they are quite happy - one in EE and one in finance. Eng. school is 5-yr., I believe, with co-ops....pretty well regarded, at least through 4-5 state area, for hiring its grads. Another friend's son just graduated in computers - had an internship that turned into a job during school and summer that turned into a full-time offer upon graduation.

Campus is quite nice - somewhat compact, but clean and well-maintained. New dorm was under construction when we looked for DD - I think it opened last fall. New rec center should be opening in next few months. Student support of sports is quite good, and intramurals are big. Greeks seem prevalent, but not overwhelming.

Excellent school...one of the best kept secrets of Catholic colleges.

We did a quick drive through and UD looked very nice (my daughter is deadset against attending a Catholic college or we might have stopped in for a tour). Dayton also struck me as a very nice smaller city, with some interesting resources and opportunities for internships. Rugg's Review of the Colleges lists Dayton's particular strengths as: Business, education, engineernig, geology, political science and sociology.

I know two kids going there - a soph and a freshman playing on the volleyball team. Soph loves it there - and I think he's living in a substance free dorm this year. I don't think it's overwhelmingly Catholic (although it has the largest collection of Mary material in the country or something like that - Marianists? is that what they're called?). Lots of school spirit for their D1 sports, particularly the basketball team. Pretty campus. Strong alumni connections. Not hard to get into and has a merit calculator on their website (and less expensive private school to start with). Nice size.

That is wild, I had no idea that UD was a Catholic school.

I just visited UD last week. (Yes, they are Marianists). Several of my relatives went there years ago.... Lots of construction going on. My son didn't like the urban atmosphere, but I thought the campus looked nice--and much improved from the old days. Not a lot of green space between buildings, but not too far to walk, either. UD has a reputation for being a very friendly school. It's great in Dayton--my home town.

There was a piece on Dayton on NPR just yesterday. They have condensed their law school curriculum from the standard 3 years down to 2. Evidently many in the legal profession think that the third year doesn't contribute that much anyway. So Dayton is trying to lead the way in a new trend.

excellent school.. known as party school so not very religious and its cheap for a school of its caliber... ppl there are really nice also.. if your looking at udayton also look at ohio univ.-athens
