Anyone else still waiting to hear about regular Honors?

Iā€™m waiting!

still waiting for regular honors - could someone repost that link?

Still waiting here too!

It must be coming out tomorrow

Hopefully!!

Mine just got an emailā€¦ didnā€™t get in honors

RIP I didnā€™t get in.

Very few kids did. Multiple high honor and AP kids, including my child, didnā€™t get honors. They were left scratching their heads wondering why since they were accepted into Honors elsewhere in other programs MONTHS AGO. Kids early on getting merit when other kids waiting for decisions rendered by other majors later on getting limited if any merit with better credentials. What a total mess this admissions process was. My child got some merit for her major but zero academic merit despite graduating 20 in her class of 500. Didnā€™t get into Honors. Similar to several high achieving friends who received zip. Sorry but I suspect this has little to do with you. Thankfully we had moved on as we suspected the process was not making sense at least a month ago. My best to you!

Thanks haha, Iā€™m probably going to commit somewhere else anyways

I donā€™t think UD is very holistic, merit is based on numbers and Iā€™m guessing honors is also (recalculated gpa/scores). Merit is mostly given to OOS students (like at most public schools. Even though they received merit, my daughters didnā€™t get into honors at UMASS, and no honors or merit at in state Rutgers. Everywhere else they got both. Itā€™s nothing personal, Iā€™m sure they all have a formula. With the cost of college and lack of FA, high stats students (1600/4.0) are applying to less selective colleges than T20 to get money these days.

How huge is getting the full ride Eugene Du Pont Scholarship ? Anybody has a view? Not able to get enough data on this / is this a prestigious enough and carries a lot of weight when applying for grad school at the Ivies? Need to make a decision whether to got for USC Half Tution or Udel full ride

USC will cost you about $200,000 and Delaware $0 - you donā€™t even pay for books and I think they give you a little stipend so itā€™s actually less than $0. Thatā€™s a big difference. I think your student will have a lot of great resume-building opportunities at UDel. I think USC is regarded as a better and more prestigious school but I donā€™t know if youā€™ll get the same special opportunities there. Iā€™d ask the honors program what percentage of Discho Scholars who apply to Ivy league grad school are accepted. If money is not a factor at all - itā€™s a tough choice but if it is then I think UDel is a no brainer.

Historically UD extended no more than 15-20 Du Pont Scholarship each year. They had over 33,000 applicants last year, and they accepted about 4,000 kids. Assuming the numbers stay about the same this year (my guess is that they have more applicants just like the other colleges), you kid represents the top 0.045% of all applicants and 0.375% of the accepted applicants. Based on the DiScho group chat my DD is on, there were 11 kids reported with Du Pont Scholarship this year. Realistically, knowing how much student loan college graduates have to bear these days, having a full ride scholarship is a huge deal regardless of where youā€™re going. My DD has been offered the Du Pont Scholarship at UD, she has also been accepted to the Honors College at Boston U. We got some aid from BU, but weā€™ll still have to pay over $200,000. We have college fund set aside for her and could pay if needed. However, after my daughter thought through the various opportunities she could get from UD as the Distinguished Scholar and World Scholar, and the kind of attention and responses she has been able to get from the professors at UD in the past couple weeks, my DD is very much inclined to go to UD. She said that sheā€™d rather not incurring debt or using up her college fund for her undergraduate study. She has plan to go to graduate school, so sheā€™d like to use the fund weā€™ve saved for her for that purpose instead. She also wants us to be able to enjoy our lives and travel to see her when sheā€™s studying overseas as the World Scholar. I do feel that UD is very dedicated in ensuring these DiScho kids will succeed at their school and beyond. While UD is not as prestigious, if the kids are motivated, and know to leverage the resources the school can provide, I think they could be successful anywhere they go.

Can u pls share the Discho chat group details? I will ask my D to also join and exchange information - that will be useful for her to help decide as well

Congratulations on your daughters receipt of the Disco scholarship. There was a discussion on CC a few years ago raising similar questions as you are now. It was titled UD vs Ivy or something along those lines. There were good and interesting viewpoints from both sides.

Putting in my own two cents, without knowing what your DD ultimately wants to do, it involves going to medical school or law school in my view students at a national public university like UD who get good grades and good test scores have the same chance of getting in as those at the more ā€œprestigiousā€ schools. Someone like your daughter with free ride will have not have any debt and can use any money you would have spend to go to the ā€œprestigiousā€ school the graduate school. If she wants to go work for Goldman Sach or some high powered financial entity then attendance at an Ivy or T20 is going to be more beneficial.

My D18 interviewed for Disco and did not get it and instead went to Clemson another national public university. She is graduating in 3 years due to AP credits and was accepted to a T20 law school with a full scholarship. My D21 is going to Miami University another national public university to study nursing with an eye towards medical school or nurse Practioner school. She is got a full OOS tuition scholarship so instead of spending lots of money on undergrad degree she will have money for graduate school and will be able to graduate debt free.

Good luck on her decision (good ones to have) and let us know what she chooses

What did you decide? Itā€™s down to the wire and my daughter is trying to decide between UDel, USC and UW Seattle.

My son also received the Dupont. He turned it down for Yale. It was a very very tough decision. Good luck to your daughter.
