UDel vs. UMD

I applied Early Decision to Delaware in the fall and was admitted, but I also got into the University of Maryland- College Park and into their scholars program which I wasn't expecting at all. In my major (education) Maryland is ranked better than Delaware and I'm not completely sure anymore about Delaware. Help!

One big problem.
You were supposed to withdraw from consideration to UMD after getting admitted to UD Early Decision. It obviously stinks that UMD gave you Honors while UD didn't. Your failure to withdraw from UMD has cost somebody out there a rejection. I'm sure neither school will be happy if they find out about the other. You may further run the risk of losing the Honors position and possible aceptance at UMD if they find out from each other. I think your best bet is to talk with someone at UMD, explaining your dilemma and see what happens. Either way you have two good schools to chose from.

PS...My D was also accepted ED and withdrew from UMD which was her second choice. It would have been nice to know if she got in, and maybe she would have received Honors as well. Ethically, she did the right thing and honored her committment.

If you applied ED, then I assume you read the following and signed to indicate your agreement.

As an Early Decision Statement applicant, I acknowledge that the University of Delaware is my first choice institution and that, if admitted, I will enroll at the University. I understand that I will be notified of admission by mid-December. If admitted to the University of Delaware, I agree to withdraw all of my other college applications
and to send in my tuition deposit by January 15, 2006. By signing below, I am recognizing that I have read the above statement and agree to all of its conditions.

Exactly what don't you get about that language?

I only didn't withdraw from Maryland because in January, Delaware never received my deposit and sent me a letter saying that they withdrew my admission and I was nervous they wouldn't give me my spot back.

1) I'd call Delaware to find out if you're still under the ED binding agreement (which I think you are).

2) Maryland is only ranked better for *GRADUATE * education which has little bearing on the quality of the undergraduate education program and how well they prepare teachers for certification. Delaware is VERY well known (see other parts of the UDel board) for it's Teacher Education program.

Okay, I'm confused. Delaware didn't get your deposit in time, so they told you that your acceptance had been rescinded? And then what -- did they finally find it? If so, I think you are still under the ED restrictions, but you should try to find out. If Delaware still hasn't received your deposit, then you really need to call them to find out what's going on. They've rescinded your admission, but you still may be subject to the ED restrictions -- but this sounds like it gets into grey area.

Bottom line -- start with Delaware and find out what your status is.

lamaura,

So what's happening???
