I guess I should be careful what I wish for, ugghh
3 young players in a row, tough for them.
Tough to come straight off the bench and take PKs. Lots of untapped adrenaline.
Great game. Time for a Brexit joke.
Felt so bad for them; good game
I’m gutted as is DW.
Very upsetting to see the verbal backlash and racial abuse the last 3 black players to shoot have had to endure. What is wrong with people.
Shoot outs are the best and the worst of soccer. As a goalie mom for years, it is so hard to see a game come down to shoot outs. Especially after a low scoring game where the goalie has already clearly saved point after point, shot after shot. I always told my son - your gig is stopping goals but also in order to win your teammates need to score goals!
Both goalkeepers were phenomenal. My son (the soccer expert) says amy team whose gk makes 2 penalty saves could expect to win.
Also, that players volunteer to take PKs, but Southgate shouldn’t have let those 3 young players, especially Saka, who hasn’t ever taken a penalty kick in a game.
I agree. And now I’m annoyed. Why did England sit back after their goal? They should have been more aggressive. There was no way Italy wasn t going to get at least one goal.
And Southgate took the blame. But here’s his quote after the game:
The better match by far was the Copa Final on Saturday night. That was an awesome and crazy game with action all over the pitch. About as close to a hockey game as a soccer match can come. And Messi, the best player in the world, finally got his first win in an Argentinian uniform, in Brazil no less, after 9 losses. They were throwing him into the air after the match.
Agreed, that match was not lost in the penalty kicks; it was lost after the first goal.
