UF 2021 OFFICIAL DISCUSSION PAGE!!!

@STEM2017 I was just wondering because I heard that general admission to UF had some appeal policy

@STEM2017 and I’m really, really anxious about this decision

@lhw1998 I’m sure you can try to appeal, but I’m also sure the process will not be easy. The general admissions app has MANY moving parts, some out of your control. If you were rejected because your test scores mistakenly didn’t arrive, then you could try to appeal. The honors app, however, is all on you - your name and your three essays - that’s it.

Anyway, Good Luck!

@snicks1234 - were you registered with a county in Florida as a home education student?

With our homeschooler, our county school district had to verify to Bright Futures that our son was registered with the county. If I remember correctly (double check me on this) I think he had to be registered by junior year of h.s., though for him that wasn’t a problem because he had been registered since elementary school.

@lhw1998 Really, don’t worry about the honor’s application, it’s not that big a deal at UF. It’s like the cherry on top of your sundae, it’s nice, but some folks can do without it.
As a student, you’ll have access to all of the same opportunities, as an honor student.

The honor’s program will “push” you into these type of activities (see advising below), but any student can and should join student clubs and organizations and find their “tribe”.

This is the best perk (IMHO) about the program. However, many students, as Freshman, really don’t need that much advising or they are willing to do the work of scheduling advising as needed.

This is great, but like I said, UF has over 1,000 student clubs and organizations to choose from, you don’t have to be in honors to take advantage of these opportunities.

Also, if you don’t make it as a freshman, if you’re still interested, you can apply as a sophomore to the University Honors Program (Freshman honors program folks are automatically advanced into UHP).

Good luck and I hope you get selected! However, if not, don’t let how someone viewed 3 essays impact your sense of accomplishment. You made it into UF, everything else is just a bonus (or a cherry).

@Gator88NE your responses are always so detailed and helpful! Thanks so much

do you guys think reapplying would be a great idea? i emailed the admissions assistant of intl admissions and she said they didn’t admit me only because of my low SAT score. Is it worth trying again?

@lenkab Maybe you should direct that question to the admissions assistant of Intl admissions, as international students may have some different rules that apply.

Good Luck!

@Gator88NE I emailed her! and she actually encouraged me to reapply if I can improve my scores. I was just seeking for some opinions

If she says do it, you should!

Still trying to figure out my rooming situation  This sucks - I’ve had the same group of friends for the past 18 years, but only one of them got admitted to UF with me

yeah, this has been an issue at my son’s high school also. Some had tentative plans (in their heads) to go to UF, only to be surprised to not get in. Now some have applied belatedly to FSU (not sure why that wouldn’t have been part of the plan to begin with!), and FSU looks like they will be admitting a lot fewer students in March than they normally do.

So, interesting situation!

For what it’s worth I went to a school where I knew NOBODY, and I got a great roommate and a great hall. Hopefully that will work out for you, lhw1998. It’s a great way to meet people.

@lhw1998 my daughter is actually looking for a roommate that she doesn’t know. I think only 2-3 girls from her friend group got in to UF most are going to FSU or UCF. She met a few people through deca states and through facebook and I think was going to FaceTime some of them to see if they would be a good fit. Good luck!

If my S ends up at UF, he will be one of the tiny OOS minority. And he will be starting with no friends. It will be a new experience and he will make new friends.

@STEM2017 where are you and your son from? I’m from Michigan, in the same boat probably no one from my area possibly going

@brady12345 We are in NYC. S may be the 3rd or 4th student ever from his HS to go to UF. But right now UF is one his most expensive options, so it’s not high on the list.

We are revisiting UF, FSU & UCF for accepted students’ days all in the next two weeks! Hopefully a more in-depth look will shed more light on things.

@Trisherella Looking forward to your report!!!

FWIW, my son is from south Florida where there are numerous kids who go to UF. He didn’t know anyone, though, and his best friend went to FAU. Son has done fine meeting people and making friends. His roommate has friends from home (central FL) and yet he does his own thing too and has been very nice to my son.

My child is currently a student at UF from good old PA. She actually met quite a few friends who are also from out of state.
