@sushipanda that could be anything from AP scholar distinctions to music performance awards, anything you feel shows that you are excelling in something you devote yourself to
My D had no real outstanding honors or achievements. She used thing like Honor Roll, Principle’s award and a music award from band, nothing special at all, . She is a band section leader and is president of a small honor society along with having a job. Nothing amazing, but she did show she was involved.
She wrote her essay on her band leadership duties which were similar to @SushiNinj 's son. She talked about while she did not have a top leadership position she did have an opportunity to practice and develop her leadership skills.
In the case of my D I think she showed potential more than ‘amazing’ achievements.
Essays are important. Just make sure you can show yourself and your true potential rather than listing your achivements in your essay. For example, my topic was aobut writing a letter to my brother or sister. I wrote a letter talking about my 9th grade Theatre Project that changed my life (Greek Scenes). I had a title to protect, Dan “The man,” but I realized that titles weren’t everything and that it is okay to have flaws and errors.
Do an awesome essay and wow them @sushipanda
@Kysanx About how much time did you or should you spend on an essay?
@Monkey288195 This essay took me 20 minutes to write. However, I had people proofread it. I believe you should take as much time as you want. Just don’t sacrifice quality at all. Don’t write anything too negative about yourself-- try to make yourself positive. Just have fun with it!
It wasn’t the amount of time spent on the essay, it was making the effort to say something different than thousands of others would say about a similar experience.
I agree with @Trisherella and @Kysanx It did not take my D a long time to write her essay because she just wrote a (creative) narrative about an experience she had, what she was thinking and how she felt. Many say the best essays are the ones where you tell a story in your own voice, those should be the easiest to write because you have already lived them.
@Trisherella has your son decided yet?
Herosauraus, he is deciding between all three! After visiting them all we’ve come to realize all have some major pros, and some minor cons. He’s going to take some time to mull it over. I honestly don’t know what is going to tip the scales for him between UCF, FSU and UF. (and of course his friends heading to each school are lobbying for their choice, lol…)
@Trisherella These are good problems!
Congratulations and best of luck with his final decision!
@Trisherella good luck to him! Honestly I’m grateful I cancelled my fsu visit because the decision was a lot easier! :,)
Rejected

Lmaoooo UCSB 2021
Does anyone know if there is a deadline to sign up for incoming fall freshmen orientation?
S rejected from Honors.
It was a long shot.
Congratulations to all who made the cut!
How do we know about honors?
Update: I thought the email was going to our new UF one!
Accepted to Dartmouth, Williams, Swarthmore, etc and rejected from UF honors. LOL!
Daughter not welcomed to Honors.
Congratulations to those that were accepted:)
From what I’ve been reading, honors is just a status. I didn’t apply to Honors because I would rather do my own stuff (helping the community and participate in many of the recreational activities) instead of being pressured into it.
Congratulations to all who have made it! Also is anyone waiting for the Machen Family Opportunity Scholar?
Also. Is any other males looking for a roommate? Just looking for one.
There’s an honors visitation day next week. The student and 2 guests are allowed. Should I go alone or have my mom come with me? What do people usually do?
