UF admissions raises the bar

i think a big reason that prevents uf from being in the elite of public schools is the lack of housing and the lack of bond that the students have to the actual campus. uf feels more like a commuter school after most kids move to gainesville and just get their own apartments.

I really agree with the above (dearkonstine). I also think ASMAJ has it clearer based on what the housing people tell me and they have been refreshingly honest I might add. I think it is tough enough to adjust to college life (in an exciting way), that having to have 3 people in an tiny room is bad. Then add on any health issues of old dorms, well boo hoo.... And that may be the only reason I have to give up my cheapest and yet good choice. No, not purely aesthetics but health issues and my asthma. Now that makes me mad. Clean and available dorms should be the "honor" of working hard enough to get into this option.............

They only let 14 people out of the contract this year. Maybe there aren't many spots open at the VERY beginning of the year but there are spots opening up all the time. Housing doesn't give you the real story most of the time, you have to work there to figure it out.

The lottery thing is irrevelant because like I said, for at least the past two years and probably for more, everyone has "won" the lottery. A student can even miss the lottery by a full month and a half and still get a room, it just might not be the exact one that they want. You could get a room now if you wanted to.

And sorry, but saying UF feels like "a commuter school" is just plain ridiculous.
