If you’re applying to UF, how much does having relatives that graduated from UF weigh in to your application? I have three relatives that graduated from UF, one is very involved in the alumni association. I also have a relative who worked as a doctor at Shands (the UF hospital) for 2 years… Help!!
UF considers it, but it’s a slight positive. UF puts a lot more weight on GPA, class rigor, test scores, essay, EC’s, etc.
Still, it helps.
I wouldn’t count on it too much. If you look around these forums, you will see prospect students with Gator alumni/relatives denied or given nontraditional offers not meant for everyone.
It may be a slight boost, but worry more about your high school studies. (I recommend you find these posts and look at their GPA/test scores/etc. for some idea.)
Then again, to some degree, UF admissions is sometimes like a lottery where even very strong candidates can be rejected over weaker ones (though they do satisfy req’s).
Do the family members have to be close family members like mom or dad or can they be uncles, aunts and or cousins? I have 1 aunt and 3 cousins who graduated from UF, with the same last name as I.
The UF application has a space for “other information” or something like that. My S used that to include mention of the many relatives he has (parents, aunts, uncles) who graduated from UF and how he would be so proud to carry on that legacy. No idea whether that helped, although he was admitted (but he had strong grades and test scores, too).
