UF cuts number of transfer students

so does this mean transfering from SFCC will be just as hard as transfering from lets say FIU??? regardless of all the budget cuts i mean. and honestly, i think all of this is sorta a good thing for UF, aside from the locals, the transfer cuts will discourage alot of the people that go to SFCC and are not that intelligent and just think its a free ride to UF from there, which is not a smart thing. now, only those who feel they can really survive and make it to UF will go, like me. (: i hope.

It is not a good thing though. I have a 3.98 and got declined. They should just decline people with sub 3.5 at worst. I am extremely intelligent, but made some poor choices in high school during the 10th grade that screwed my gpa up. Now I work very hard and do everything they tell me I need to and more and I still don't get in. Plus I am a local that went to SFCC, I still live at home. For your sake I hope you get in, but I wouldn't be surprised with any decision they make. And transferring from SFCC is not necessarily as hard as from FIU, its just for the business program for me. I could have gotten in another less demanded college with ease. The high demand schools at UF are what this will hurt the most.

well, i plan on transfering into engineering college so ill pretty much be bout as screwed as you. and when i said it might be a good thing i didnt mean it in your case. i think u shoulda been a shoein with that gpa and an AA and their excuse is ***in weaksauce. but in the future, they will not allow just anybody with any gpa to transfer in just cuz they go to sfcc.

Could someone please define "the high demand programs" at UF?
So far we have Warrington?

I think this is a great decision on UF's part... I've always thought the automatic SFCC acceptances were kind of unfair. Someone could slack off all they wanted in high school, then simply attend a community college for two years before enrolling at a top 50 school. Here, they would get all the same benefits as someone who had worked hard in high school to be accepted.

Not to say that no one from SFCC should get in, or anything. There are people such as "hermanns" who have worked hard and totally deserve to get in. I'm just glad they are reducing the incoming transfers.

^ Great point Medwell! UF should not be an entitlement to SFCC students

I agree with all of you that sfcc students shouldn't automatically be allowed into uf by meeting the minimum requirements, but those in the top of their class should certainly get in. When I talked to them about it, they said there were something like only allowed 10 transfer spots after the cutback for business economics which is what I applied for. That gives a very poor chance of getting accepted.

I have decided I want to go to BYU in the winter now though even though I am not mormon. I talked to their admissions and they said I am at an advantage as a non mormon because so few apply and that with my GPA and the other things I told them that I will pretty much get accepted, and BYU school of business has MUCH better recruiting than UF (ibanks that on campus recruit include GS, JPM, D Bank, UBS, ML, BS) does. Even as non mormon it will only cost me about $4000 more per year than UF does for a private and out of state school. In the end I will probably be better off than if I had went through UF. Partying does not help ones GPA.

This time however, I am not going to put all my eggs in one basket and will also apply to other schools including FSU. I will still be a semester ahead of schedule based on my high school class if I start in the winter though.

^ I don't blame you, FSU is a good school. I have a ton of friends who went there.

Lot's of hot women attend.
